Wal-Mart or Target are two stores right off the top of my head as places where you can purchase a cheap futon. Also look in your neighborhood -- sometimes those outlet stores or off-price stores have furniture sections -- and you can get a futon there pretty cheaply too.

Walmart sometimes carries a futon under 200. Otherwise, to cut down on cost, look for a used frame, and get a new mattress that suits your taste. Check out classifieds in a college newspaper if a school is nearby.

I just saw one on sale this week in the Walmart flyer. I've been pricing them too. I can't find one I like for under $600. I think Walmarts is $150. but it really isn't what I want.
