oh that is so nasty. i hate it when someone is standing there and they spit in front of me.eeewwww!it feels like im being disrespected!think about it, if one wanted to put another down, they would spit at or on them. so i think spitting in front of them is just as bad.

I'ts like pissing in public. Should be done in a private way. As long as no one is watching spit on the ground not on grass or area that shows the spit.

YES, SPITTING IN PUBLIC IS TOTALLY DISGUSTING!!!
Oh My God, spitting in public is the grossest habit that Americans have of all time. It sooooo disgusting!
People have the nerve to say that public spitting is natural, but only animals relieve their bodily functions in public!! Gross!

We live in a society where we do not want to be stepping in other peoples DNA.
However if you do happen to have your mouth open and a fly goes in your mouth, I do not think that it is rude to spit it out.
If someone is watching, so be it!

Well it's gross for one, no one wants to look at your spit especially in day and age where there are diseases that are easily spread. It could make people feel uneasy, but it most definately is a sign of disrespect as well.

For the same reason that it is rude to blow snots from your nose, deficate, etc. in public.
Any bodily discharge in public is highly rude and disrespectful...except for breast feeding, which one of the previous posters should recognize as vital to life and an accepted practice amongst civilized people in the 21st century...

Because often that slobber will end up on the sidewalk and I end up stepping on it. That and I have to see that spit sailing through the air and landing. Gross!

If women can breast feed in public then you can do just about any bodily function you want in public. Got that?
To Muffin Man:
Defecating is also vital to life - it does not mean its required to do it in public. That's why there are restrooms. Got that?
