No... I am a Christian but I choose not to go to church. I am completely turned off by organized religion. In my opinion, today's church is a business and a strong form of social control that serves to further other people's agendas. I think my relationship with God is healthier because I do not allow churches to brainwash me.

I was, and our pastor talked about the sovereignty of God. He explained what Paul was teaching as it related to God using various vessels for noble and ignoble use. And how people with a will are different than clay in the hands of the potter, since clay does what the potter wishes. People often resist the Potter, thinking they know better than He.

Now, I am amazed that some here say that church attendance is not required for Christians. I have to ask, "Why do you wish to be disobedient?" God has established His church as the conduit for His grace. While it is true that Christians are to get together for fellowship, it is more important to get together for worship and the Word. Contrary to the belief expressed by some, church attendance is mandatory. Hebrews 10:24-25 is just but one example.

I understand how people can get turned off by what they call "organized religion." But not all churches are that bad, and if there was such thing as a perfect church, they wouldn't have you anyway.

It has been said that the church is a lot like Noah's Ark, the stench on the inside would be unbearable, except for the storm outside.

If you willingly separate yourself from the Body of Christ, you set yourself up for spiritual decay and failure. Satan and his minions act like pack animals. They don't fight fair. Just as a pack of predators that follow a flock or herd. They will not attack the herd or flock, they will wait until one that is weak or sick falls behind the others. Then the pack attacks the one. It is so lopsided. And Peter gives us a vivid image of this when he wrote, "Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent the devil is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour." (I Peter 5:8)

Yes, I was in church today. Our Sunday School time was devoted to a promotion of the children from one class to another, based on age and year of school.

The sermon was a study on guilt, based on Exodus 28:31-38 with specific reference to verse 38 which indicates that there is a real burden associated with sin that must be carried by someone
It was a good message. Interestingly, to our congregation at least, our pastor, who normally wears a suit for sermons and ceremonies is doing a wedding in a couple of weeks and the couple has requested that he wear a robe for the ceremony. He is not sure how he feels about that. He's rather athletic, not to much into wearing robes and vestments and such. It ought to make for some good laughs.

I read your question with great amusement.

It sounds exactly like you are a student of BSF, as this is a common theme in each weeks lessons and study.

Yes, we go to church every Sunday morn and evening, and Wednesday nights. BSF on Monday nights.

Today the Sermon was on Heaven and just what it may be like, as the bible gives us very little to go on except that it will be back to full circle, pre fall state. Sunday School summed up in homeletics terms would be "No matter what happens, God is good. (Paul and the thorn in his side)

Now as to how this will apply to my week, I do not know yet, as the week is just beginning. Some lessons and sermons manifest themselves much later and some right away. I , however, will remain open to the leading and calling of the holy spirit to guide my hours until I am in the house of the Lord once again to have this broken little vessel refilled.

Have a blessed week!!

yes, i was...the youth of our church conducted the service-it was very inspiring! i really enjoyed seeing how they can look at things from a different perspective and end up standing, figuratively, next to a geezer like me, both of us in awe of the same God, but from different angles...the sermon was about how we influence our children for right or wrong...it gives me even more reason to show my kids and not just tell them...i came away from the service with a good feeling about our church's future...it's in good hands---hands that are clasped in prayer and busy in service to God and the community...

I was. We are still in the book of Mark and today the pastor was speaking about Peter, and how certain things led up to his denial of Jesus, i.e., that Peter fell asleep in the garden instead of praying as Jesus told him to, that when Jesus was siezed, Peter followed "from a distance", and while Jesus was before the Jewish leaders, Peter was outside "warming himself" at the enemies' fire. The pastor went on to say that we need to be careful and keep close to the Lord always, not follow Him "from afar off", that maintaining a close relationship may keep us from falling prey to temptation.

I believe "church" is where your heart is. It's wherever that "place is"- where you communicate, give thanks & pray to God. It doesn't have to be a man-made edifice- that HE has to go to -to hear you! He can be reached & found anywhere on this beautiful creation of His we call "home" (Earth). Since people are social & tend to be on the "clannish" side- we build our temples, mosques, churches etc.- and gather in them as much for security, companionship, and guidance sharing. But I don't believe that they are "necessary" for people to have to "go to"- to excersize our Faith.
