the water is basically safe but their might be problems with the pipes of older buildings. lead pipe can cause lead poisoning and therefore it is better to let the water flow for a minute before drinking it. better yet, buy a good filter to remove lead.

NYC has some of the best drinking water in any City. During the last Century, small NYC purchached mile and miles of upstste ;ny including lakes and valleys that were flooded. All of this waterm basically rain water and water from melting snow, is few to the City thru 2 large tunnels. A third is being built as the need to make repairs on one of the aging ones would place NYC in jepordy.
The water has few minerals or contaminants. Its really terrific.
Ive traveld throughout the Country and much of the water and well water is pretty bad.
Have you triend NYC water, I've heard no one ever say its bad.

New York City, has one of the best sources, of water supply, in the United States. The drinking water, comes from the Catskill Mountains. It comes from fresh spring water, and lakes in the mountains. I live close to the Catskill mountains, and it has many fresh water springs, which flow into the lakes, and then down to NYC...The bottled water that you buy, is probably not as good as the drinking water, that you get from your faucet..So save your money!!

Absolutely safe, and some say the best in the world.
In Los Angeles, they try to charge you to buy NYC Tap water. I kid you not - it happened to me.

i dont know if its still true or not but i read in an article about 6 years ago that nyc had the best drinking water in the nation . i think you can check it out in the web

I hate to say anything nice about New York, but the water is not only safe, it tastes good.
