the other day..as I know it's an American thing and I wanted to know what the big deal was. It tasted like processed plastic!!! Anyonelse agree or does it taste better if you buy it in the States?

Get some Teriyaki Beef Jerky, beautiful stuff, although I agree with the earlier answer that it is a bit of an acquired taste.

Where is Sainsburys? Try making it yourself.
slice lean beef thin, marinate in something tasty like teriyaki overnight, set oven on warm or real low. lay strips on rack and let dry in oven till no visible moisture is on meat. if you let it go too long it will be just be hard tack or dryed beef. make sure to put aluminum foil or a pan on the bottom of oven to catch the juices. It should come out with a low moisture content but definitely not dry.

All beef jerky is disgusting it is just a popular way to give yourself a heart attack in the U.S
The more expensive brands do taste better but it is still pretty disgusting.

The mass produced variety is terrible, I agree. You need to get some from a local butcher that smokes meat. Its like night and day. Not plastic tasting at all, like eating well spiced tender meat...
