This also depends on what you are applying for. I am an officer in the Navy and I had to take a different test. One for the officer portion and another one for the aviation portion.

What are you applying for and what are your long term goals? I spend hours each week giving guidance to young people (14-21 yrs old) about joining the military and their options. You can email me and I would love to help out.

By the way, don't buy what the person said about the "cough and count to 10" That depends on what you want to do... Infantry, maybe... but most positions in the military with after service career prospects have more stringent requirements.

The ASVAB is the main test when you are being looked at for entry into the Military Services. Depending on what your scores are in the individual sections -- then you are matched to specific skills needs areas -- all based on the needs of the service.

Do you realize that Military Personnel are undergoing training throughout their Military Careers! Yes, we constantly are being trained, cross-trained, retrained, and given opportunities to even obtain degrees and certifications from Civilian-recognized sources as well.

As far as the army goes, the first one was called the GT score, a general IQ and aptitude exam. 100 was average in the sixties, but your score did not necessarily lead to a certain MOS. My score was hightest in my training battallion (152) and I got 11B, light weapons infantry, and sent to Vietnam. Remember, an MOS can always be changed depending upon the present need for qualifiable personnel. rat

These days, if you can spell your name, count to 10, and hold a gun, you are pretty well set. More meat for the grinder...
