I have the superstar flat iron for about a year or two. My mother and I both use it once a week, and sometimes during the week for touch ups. I've noticed that it isn't as good as it used to be. My hair is very curly and long and it would look like glass after I'd use it; now it just looks like my hair is frizzy and puffy. Does this mean that I need to buy another $100 flatiron? A friend of mine has the same brand flatiron and had it for longer and hers is still giving her the pantene prov look. Is mine just shot from using it so much? Do flatirons have life expectancies?
I'd appreciate any responses.
Thanks!

It is probably worn out, it might not have anything to do with how often you or your friend are using it. Im a hairstylist, and at my salon we go through flat irons all the time. Sometimes they just ware out. Most irons only have a one year warrenty on them. However, if you did buy it from a salon you might be able to just take it back there. Ive never heard of that iron, you must be from the states. Our most popular iron is the CHI and we have people bring them back and all we do is give them a new one off the shelf and send their defective one back to the manufacture. Most places have no way to tell how long youve had the iron. Your best bet would be to take it back where you bought it and see if they will give you a new one. Good luck!

Yes you need a new one about every 12 months. I noticed that mine was not working as well. The coating wears off and damages your hair and the heating element doesn't get hot enough after about 100 uses.

Well maybe its not heating up correctly. Hypothetically if the the curler works fine then its not that. It may be you've changed your hair style, or maybe even your hair care product. Try going back to doing what you always do. Also as you age, throughout your teen years you will find that changes in your hair are not uncommon.

Yes it may be time to get a new one. So much use could have made the heating elements in it go bad.

Maybe you just need to clean your flat iron from product buildup with a warm cloth. If that doesnt work, then just replace it....
