Keeping its waste products cleaned up and away from her will help also. Having her wormed too. Change to a better quality food like IAMS, Science Diet etc. It's a real bad habit they get into and very hard to break...it's like eating baby diapers...nasty! Your vet should be able to give you some information on how to stop or go to the local ASPCA or Humane Society for information.

You have some very good comments above. However some are kind of iffy....my dog loves Pineapple!!! and you definitely don't want diarrhea going on! Chemicals that are not toxic CAN be toxic to dogs! Never put anything on your dogs food or waste that isn't prescribed for dogs or vets suggestion.

There's something called Forbid. I'm not exactly sure how to give it but I know they eat it. I know that when they digest it and they poo, it makes it taste bad. It's sold at Vet Clinics, I'm not sure at Petsmart??? But that will help and solve your problem. They eat their poo cause when they eat and then go to the bathroom some of the food isn't all the way digested. So when they poo some of their food is still in their feces so it taste good.

First of all,an 8 wk old puppy should be taken out to potty not put out to potty. They have very short attention spans at this age an may get interested in something else and then go when let back in.TAKE them out and have a potty party explicitly timed right AFTER they go(not during or they will stop)Clap hands, laugh, say yeah! go over to the potty and say good(insert word here)pet an fuss with puppy and piont to the wonderful deed!No still very happy for this glorous gift, pick it up an deposit in the proper place. My adult dogs still go from poop to poop and wag their tails when i have a scooper in hand, its like they help me find it to have a potty party.a couple weeks on pappya enzyme tabs from the vitamin store will help break down the proien in it too so if the lil guy finds a missed one it wont smell *** yummy.Good luck!
PS....kepp an eye out for neighbors watching you do your potty party, because if done correctly, they will think you are nuts!lol

This is common among most dog breeds. When my dogs did this I would sprinkle a small amount of meat tenderizer in their food. Don't know why but it somehow makes dogs stop eating their poop. Also, you can find something similar in any pet store to put on their food to stop this behavior. Good luck with your Golden :)

get a slice of pineapple and then squeze it on top of the poo, then leave the poo and dont pick it up
ur pup will then go to ea it but doesnt because dogs do not like the smell or taste of pineapple
eventually it will learn to stop doingit, every time it ignores the poo praise the dog

i know that some people feed there dogs pineapple, but it can give them stomach problems if they have a week gut

hope this helps

just perservere, it will eventually stop

Do not give her the chance!!!!! Keep her on leash and then pick it up right away. There are products that you can add to the food so they do not like the taste of the poo!!!!
For-Bid is a popular one. Foster and Smith have their own brand too.

Sprinkle meat tenderizer (just like you'd use on your food) on her food. They eat with no problem but it makes the taste of her poo unappetizing (as if it wasn't already!) good luck

P.S. canned pumpkin is a laxative it may work for tasting bad but it will also be Runny

my dog did this, and i found "Forbid" and other such products did no good. your dog may be different, though.

my roommate's dog used to do this, and in his case, it proved to be a nutritional deficiency. sometimes it's not a matter of needing to feed them more. your pup is very young...he should be eating 2 or 3 meals a day rather than one large one. in the case of my roommate's dog, they had been feeding him just once a day. they started feeding him twice daily, and he stopped eating his poo. :)

Her food isn't satisfying her, put her on science diet for pups or some other brand like Beneful or Pro Pan for puppies, you can get these at PetSmart, hope this helps.

its very natural for dogs to do this my golden retriever used to do it and my vet said its because it smells like there food...it's pretty odd yea but a way u cn prevent this is by cleaning up its poop when she does it and when you see she's gonna eat poop tell her loud and very clearly "NO!" but dont scream bcz it might get frightend and it might forget why u screamed at her that's what I do with my sis's dog she loves poop.... ewww lol
