If we could really LOOK at what is going on with major violence and hatred in the world, then yes. We look down on others who don't believe what we do. I hear it all the time. And in other countries its a bloodbath because of religion. It may not be the ONLY thing keeping us from "world peace" but it is most certainly a major block in the road.
Look at Catholicism. How many have been murdered in cold blood through out history for this "faith". Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't it the Buddhist religion the only one that teaches and practices Passive Resistance?

Religious differences are definitely not the major block to world peace. But they don't help against the exploitation of "religion" to be used for purposes of control, power and, most of all, GREED.
It is the departure (differences) from the basic teachings of most "religions" that is allowing jealousy, criticism of the "other", fear of losing and getting hurt to be used as justification for "seeing justice done" by "punishment".
If we look at what most religions have in common we find that the qualities of “compassion” and “forgiveness” are the most prevalent recommendations for “human” behavior in all the serious religions.
If we truely and willingly employed these recommendations (commanments) there would be no cause for hate and enmity!
We really should try it!
But it's no good for the economy, so it's not likely to be realized, not while megga corporations tell our governments what to do - OR ELSE!!

No, Here is why: Religion is an abstract concept that lacks the power to make anybody do anything. What is behind a radical religious idea is usually someone interpreting religion in the manner that most benefits him. Think about it, people are people. We all have underlying issues that cause us to behave in a manner that is not socially acceptable. If we did not have religion to validate our wrong doings I’m sure we humans would find another medium to justify our actions, like race, sexual preference, differing views. It’s human nature to separate ourselves from others and create small familiar groups of like minded individuals, Even in a global context. Even lesser primates do this. Sadly an ill affect of grouping ourselves off into groups can be scapegoating others, the “out-group,” which can lead to violence and war.

no, I do think that yes that you are right about the wars but not that it's the only major block to world peace. I think greed and selfishness and unequality in the word also have a lot of conflict. Even within coutries within the same religions there can be conflicts. It's not only about religion.

Religion, is always used as an excuse, but was never a reason for war....
From the sacking of Troy to the Spanish invasion of England to WW1 to the Iraq war, you can hear religion being touted as an excuse. IT IS NEVER THE TRUE CAUSE OF WAR. I
The real cause is greed, selfishness, and simply the feeling of not being satisfied with what you have. When people want power, they will do things to get it, and wars happen when these power hungry people take it too far...
War may also happen in tha positive way...the desire for righteous freedom, for pure joy, or the pursuit of happiness...A war against the forces that deny us these rights of life also happens sometimes...like the American revolution or WW2.

I think that the MAJOR block is how society today turns there back on your if you don't do as they "think" you should do. We can't seem to be able to live on this earth and accept each other for who they are. We were all made and raised differently. Is it really my fault that I was raised this way ? If we all minded our own business and just had common courtesy things would be better. Religion was made to be enjoyed not forced.

I've come to the conclusion that religion is the M.O. or the "excuse" for war. War, from my own personal research, is always fought for either economic reasons or purely for the acquisition of power. Look at history. You don't have to look far or scratch too far below the surface to see the real reason behind it.

50% Religious differences cause to much confusion on those seeking real peace in God.
50% There has never had peace in this world with satan and sin on the way.
Solution: Jesus is the only proven 100% peace to the whole world. If every religionn look at Jesus as he expects from us to look at him, then peace will come.

If history is any guide, no. The 1st and 2nd world wars were not about religion, nor was the Korean was, nor the Vietnam 'conflict'.

Actually, no. People just don't like other people.
We are a fallen people, full of sin and love to fight, hate and kill.
We can't even get along within the family, look at all the divorces and troubled teenagers that hate their parents.
We need to be changed, which only God can do.
