She is one year old, a small swiss mountain dog (shorthair tri colored) just went thru her first heat last month... we live in NE Wisconsin and I am wondering if it is the allergy season? Or could she be allergic to something else? I don't think it is fleas or ticks or the two cats would have problems, also... any suggestions, ideas??? I will take her to the vet in a day or two if not better. she has suffered for a week already and it's getting worse.. her outside area of her mouth is pink now, too.. her eyes are runny and her eyes are bloodshot. I tried giving her Benadryl 30 mg (she weighs about 30 pounds)... please help if you have any ideas...

Our vet told us that the allergy season started about 1 1/2 weeks ago. He said that within 24 hours, his phone was ringing like crazy with dogs having allergy symptoms. One of the first things he pointed out in our dog was that the whites of his eyes and the inside of his ears were red. Allergies!
He put our lab mix on Pednisone for a week.

If She's on a dog flea prevention, then that's probably not it. One flea can set a dog off on a reaction. It is allergy season and it sounds like she has it. So go to your Vet. and they'll give her an injection of cortisone and some pills to take. Yes giving Benadryl is a good idea, just be careful with the doses.

She has allergies and needs 2 go 2 the vet and get a long acting Cortazone shot. It will relieve the itching within a few hours.

You can give your dog benadryl at the rate of 1/2 mg per/lb every 8 hours

Could also be a food allergy. Have you changed her food recently or given her any new treats? My dog gets teary watery eyes and itches when he eats beef (he's allergic to it) Maybe try giving her Natural Balance Duck and Potato or Sweet potato and Fish (both are for dogs with food allergies) and see if that helps.

Please call the vet tomorrow morning. Yes, it could be allergies...or she could have been bitten by something...but if it is affecting her eyes, she needs her vet and some "made for dogs" medicine! Give her a bath tonight in some warm water and baking soda, but don't get it in her eyes. Good Luck!

She does need to see a vet tomorrow. For tonight, give Benadryl. You did not give her enough for her weight.
Here's a website with the correct dosage by weight.

take her to the vet or you can go to the pet store for itchy skin shampoo. allergy season could be around but take her to the vet just in case for any sicknesses. good luck with your poor little doggy!

Aww it sounds like allergies to me, but you might want to take her to the vet and get her checked out just in case.

Your Vet should be able to give you some help over the phone, at least something to help until your appt.
