I have read somewhere that trees respond to the sound of chainsaws about to cut them down .Also that plants can thrive after classical music has been played to them . What does this suggest about plants and trees?

It suggests that you should stop reading psuedoscientific hippie nonsense and start reading some real botany texts.

There is no evidence that plants respond to the sound of chainsaws or the sound of music.

Hi. Assuming the tree does not know what a chainsaw is then if they get a measured response it may have something to do with sound effecting the roots. I think that's what they determined might cause the response to music.

It suggests that

a) trees should evolve legs very quickly
b) Plants are snobs.

I agree with the first respondant.

i never heard that and im not sure why plants react to sound. but on mythbusters they actually like death metal music the best over all when they did an experiment about it. well if plants react to sound maybe they are smarter than we think and now everything we eat is somehow intellegent.

You are referring to a book called "The Secret Lives of Plants" by Tomkins.

The book has its critics and is considered in the category of pseudoscience. It's not real science,, highly subjective.
