I'd rather believe that there is a God and find out there isn't one then to believe that there is no God and find out that there is one.

I forget who said this. It mighta been Albert Einstein.

What do you think of this?

Okay thanks. I thought it was Einstein. It was Pascal's Wager.

Hello!! :o) Although - as someone has already suggested - it may not be the ideal reason to believe in God - it should at least be something one considers. No matter how eloquently one might argue that there is no God - in the end - it doesn't matter at all. Whether or not God is real is NOT dependent upon whether or not man believes He is real. Craig!! :o)

Pascal's wager. Quite lame, really. What if you choose wrong? What if it is the Speckled Tree Frog Worshippers, from the jungles of Borneo, who turn out to be right? Then, you are screwed. Besides... don't you think that an omniscient diety would see right through your fake 'belief'? I don't think that 'belief-in-order-to-cover-my-***' is what your creator had in mind. You'd be screwed even if you DID manage to pick correctly from among the 34,000-odd identifiable Christian sects.

By the way... I hate to see Einstein maligned. He was an atheist:

"It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world (universe) so far as our science can reveal it." ~ Albert Einstein

Sorry but it seems like a weak reason to believe in God.

Just in case he's real you'll have faith? That isn't really faith, that seems like a self serving back-up plan.

Makes sense, but it's the wrong reason to believe.

I'd rather be true to myself and be wrong than pretend to believe in something I don't, just in case.
