Hi,
Actually the larger speakers draw more power to produce a sound and over time can burn out whatever it is that transmits the sound.
This is true for anything that produces sound. Like car stereos, tv's, etc.. I don't know the technical part but I think it is they draw more amperage than the unti was designed to produce and therefore cause the transmitter to over work.
There are speakers made just for tv's and you can find them at cheapest prices search engine.

what Baby Lisa said is correct about stereo speakers and the amout of power they require. Sometimes you will over load the amplifier in your reciever, but they do make external amps that are only used to power speakers.

Also, the speakers in your TV are magnetically shielded so they don't screw up your picture. If you take large floor standing speakers and put them right next to your TV, you'll get snow or static in the picture.
