I definitely agree. They brainwash you into fearing a non-existant powerful spirit, and only back it up by saying it's in a 1,000 year old book. What if Jesus was schizophrenic because he believed he had special powers? Back then they didn't have diagnoses or anything along those lines.
Religion is hypocritical and teaches more fear than virtues. It has no realistic nor scientific explanation.
By the way, I'm atheist, and I'm only 13 years old, but that doesn't mean I don't have a valid opinion.

You must never have understood the true meaning of Christianity because it is not a religion in the way you are referring. Catholicism, Methodist, the Amish/Mennonite church etc., are religions within the Christan banner. To be Christian means to love you fellow man and not to judge them. Salvation by the blood of Jesus Christ is to know that no matter what you've done in this life you have heaven in the next, because Jesus paid for our sins. I'm not putting people who follow any of the above religions down their are true Christians within those church's, but some times the profit of an individual church overrides the true meaning. If I live my life as a Christian and I'm good to others, help people, enjoy life, am a solid citizen and I die one of two things will happen: I go to heaven and live on in paradise, or death is final and there is nothing else. What did I lose either way? I know that there is something better than this life(thank GOD!!). Do you really believe life has no meaning and there is nothing except this messed up world? If you really so I feel sorrow for you. Maybe you could talk to someone you respect and let them tell you why they believe. Sometimes family isn't the ones to help you reach an unbiased conclusion.

How old are you?
If you are say... 8th grade or less you should go. Do it with a good attitude and realize that even though you do not understand or see the need there will be benefits for you and your family.
Do it as an act of love for your family - particularly for your mom and dad - you are still young and you will hear and see things that you won't get anywhere else. Besides, what would you do while they are gone? Watch TV, listen to music... you want to lead a productive life and have to make the effort.
If you are High School age you probably are entitled to more choice but your choices should be responsible and not just your feelings.
One thing you will learn at church is to not let your feelings rule your life becuase it ultimately leads to trouble and problems. Do what you know is right even when you don't feel like it, and that probably begins with going to church.
God Bless - everyone goes through this. I did. But I sure love God and am glad that I went now.

Growing up in a Pentecostal Evangelical environment was brain washing for me. The effects of this type of brain washing affected my life in ways that destroyed my spirit. Any religion that does not give person the right to practice their own critical thinking skills is about power and control. I learned you do not need a middle man to find God, even though our society instills this in children at a very early age. My relationship now with God is wonderful. He is about love - nothing more, nothing less. Everyone has the voice of God within - it can be a life long journey, but I have learned to shut out the endless chatter of the ego mind and listen to my inner voice.

If your parents were really wanting you to "find God" they would explain it is very clear in the bible that religion is not what makes a christian . Religion is man made ideas of what we think will be pleasing to God. What people don't tend to get is God already loves us all the time no matter what and we will always fall short because we are just humans. It's not about rituals or doing things a certain way , God doen't care if you talk to him on the toilet as long as you strive to have a personal , intimate relationship w/ him .My cousins are going through a lot of problems right now because they went to church their whole growing up , and they were taught religion believing that they had to earn Gods love . That simply is not true. A really great teacher of God's word is Joyce Meyer , you should try to read some of her books and decide for yourself what being a christian is , but remember you can't expect to understand God's word and what it means if you never read what it says. He is always waiting for you to come to him !

You are in a very common situation. If it is because you haven't found god yet, then they can't make you find god. If it's because it's all a big joke, they can't keep you from laughing.
Se la vie.
Personally, I agree with you and have since childhood (in the church, even). However, don't forget to be glad for them and the optimism religion brings if it had added something to their lives.

Well, to me Christianity is not a joke.
The Bible does show however, in Revelation 2 and 3, that all churches will have problems. Some will have false teaching in with the true. But, people are judged individually, according to their deeds.
Gathering and learning is part of the command to *gather together.* This way Christians can encourage one another. It is like sheep in a pen. They are cared for by their shepherd. Sometimes wolves cause distress. If the sheep get to close to each other, there is a little static electricity, illustrating small personality problems. But this pressure, handled with love, and the fruit of the spirit, will transform each faithful one into the 'diamond' Christian.
I am sure Jesus thought it was no joke to be tortured and die for us. In fact, he prayed fervently the night before his death, for his Father to remove that cup, but gave in totally to his Father's will, and now he is our DIAMOND..or perfect King.
I hope you start to pray and investigate to see if the Bible is true, and reap the blessings offered to mankind, from God, the giver of every perfect gift.

It can be, I try to tell my friends that I a am more spiritual than they are even though I am not affiliated with any religion. They always assume your atheist but that is not the case, just because you don't believe in their god(s) doesn't mean you are atheist or agnostic. Some religions just like to say that their god is better yours or worse negate your god or call anything that is not their god, satan. I sometimes find it better just to keep my beliefs to myself, even if I disagree about what my family or friends believe. To each his own.

BTW, Christianity is not a formal religion. Catholicism, Judaism, Islam, Episcopalianism, etc. are religions. By definition, it's not brainwashing. Ridiculous? Depends on who you're asking. If it keeps people out of trouble (and it usually does) then it's okay with me. A joke? Not in my opinion. I've experienced a couple of life-saving miracles from illnesses that doctors said I would never recover from. Yet I persisted, prayed, and continued to think positively. I am alive today ONLY by the grace of God, my beliefs, and my faith in Him. Hopefully, you will be blessed with such good fortune and will have the presence of mind and spirit to realize it when it happens.
'Nuff said?

i'm Roman Catholic. a million. Predestination is a heresy. 2. I surely have never even heard of every physique being escorted out of a Catholic Church except they have been engaged in overt criminal acts - like rioting or scuffling with, etc. 3. The Catholic Church would not instruct that girls can no longer carry positions of capacity in society. it is nonsense. women would no longer be priests, for a complicated reason, yet they are no longer no longer exceedingly much as good as adult men. in case you think of meaning women are unimportant in Catholicism, I propose you remember mom Theresa. 4. Jesus preached to all sinners - alongside with people who work together in disordered sexual acts, like gay acts, yet He did no longer condone sins. 5. you're precise with regard to the smugness of many self-proclaimed Christians. No human guy or woman has the authority to sentence every physique to Hell. to accomplish that may be blatantly opposite to the instructions of the Catholic Church. we ought to consistently desire for and pray for the salvation of absolutely everyone. 6. I surely have never seen a Catholic priest using a Cadillac, Mercedes Benz or Rolls Royce motor vehicle. The Catholic Church's clergy stay very modest lives, generally in some sort of shared housing. In in simple terms about all circumstances they take an enduring vow of non-public poverty. Catholic priests are certainly no longer interior the vocation for the money. 7. It saddens me very much which you have seen such unfavorable examples of Christianity. persons interior any team of human beings are going to each so often do issues that are gravely incorrect. we are all sinners, however the richness and certainty of the single Holy Catholic and Apostolic Church is rather diverse from what you have defined. i desire which you do no longer evaluate Christianity to be incorrect via this manner of issues you have defined. those courtroom circumstances prepare little or never to The Catholic Church itself. international, the overpowering majority of Christians are Catholic. i think of you ought to look intently into the doctrine and charitable works of the Catholic Church. The Church spends billions of greenbacks each and every twelve months on feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless, and offering convenience and medical interest to the ill and needy. i've got self belief you would be stunned at how eye-catching genuine Christianity fairly is. Peace be with you.
