It hurts, but not very bad. The nail is a cloudly blue in the center. Any idea what to expect?

I'm probably going to the doc tomorrow, so don't answer "go to a doctor". Instead, I'm curious if anyone has had a similar situation, and what I can expect from this injury (e.g. color changes, nail falls off, etc?)

Your nail will fall off end of story.
GOOD DAY.

OH OK I suppose I could give one hint...
Soak in ice and then warm water.
ICE helps take down swelling and heat helps to heal.
do heat 20 min. cold 20 min.
ALSO ADD SALT AND VINEGAR to the water...the WARM water...helps healing also and cleansing.
TRY EPSOM SALTS but any salt will do.
IF the toe bone is broken not much you can do, put a splint, tape or bandage a pop cycle stick to the top and bottom until you see a doctor.
Meantime, try to stay off your feet, or when you sit/or lie down keep your foot elevated. A few pillows or so.
Take aspirin or whatever you take for pain as directed by the label.
YOU really do not need to see a doctor UNLESS,
YOU run a fever and the swelling gets ridiculously BIG...and runny with yellow or green fluid known as pus! SIGN OF AN INFECTION.
Then seek a doctor.

Attempt to cut it just above the white nail plate, then remove the remaining nail. This will relieve the pressure pinching the vessels underneath the nail. Be sure to clean the exposed nail bed with hydrogen peroxide and a cotton ball. Leave the cotton on the nail bed and wrap the entire toe with gauze and medical tape. Save your money and cancel the doctor's appointment and keep changing the gauze until the nail has grown back. Good luck!

My first thought was .....OUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!! I've mashed fingers and toes and it does hurt, doesn't it!!!! I would guess that you will just have a bruise under the nail for awhile and it will gradually disappear. Put some ice on it for a few minutes. The toenail usually doesn't loosen and fall off unless the injury is severe and there's nothing the doctor would need to do for this.

hmm ive heard alot of nail stories from friends and my mom who has stuff like that happen to her alot. Usually the nail falls off, but dont worry! it will grow back. Im not sure on the color thing. But you probably broke a blood vessel in your toe and the color is from the blood. (i kno blood is red, but under the skin it appears blue - like veins and black and blues)

well i hope your toe feels better

I smashed the hell out of my finger once and it did the same thing. if its really bad like mine was, he'll drain the blood out from under the nail and eventually the whole nail may fall off. was a bad time.

Well I have no idea how old this is, but if it's old then you have probably lost you nail, and trust me it's ok. I am gonna lose one soon. You'll be ok.

It will probably just go a little blacker then fall off.......dont worry though the nail will grow back fairly quickly.
It happened to me a few years back, not very nice but just one of those things.

try buddy taping your toe. just use a surgical type tape and tape the brusied toe to the toe next to it for support. it could be broken and not much is done for this except the taping and time.
