Does it matter? I notice that when I run for about a half an hour, regardless of speed, I tend to lose about 5 pounds. But certainly I haven't lost 17,500 calories in a half an hour, which is what I would have had to lose to really lose 5 pounds. How is it that I am five pounds lighter? Is there really that much water weight?

The best time of day to monitor your weight is after you get up in the morning. Relieve yourself first, then weigh yourself at the same time each and every time, wearing the same sort of clothing or without clothing. Naked is the optimal method. Consistency is the key factor.

Doing this at the same time in the morning is best because you haven't eaten or drunk yet (fluids are heavy). Your weight can fluctuate throughout the day. This morning weigh in gives you your baseline weight. If a morning weigh in is inconvenient, you can do this at some other time of day as long as it's at the same time, in the same type of clothing.

If you are on a weight lose plan, then it makes no difference when you weigh yourself, as long as you try to do it at a consistant time. This levels out most of the factors related to the TIME OF DAY.

Any real weight loss results should show up in how you look, how clothes fit and in how much energy you have to spare, so a few pounds, one way or the other, from one day to the next is meaningless. And, of course, water weight shouldn't even be a concern.

A record of your weight loss should show a downward progress over a LONG period of time.

I agree with you, that 5 lbs of water weight loss after only half an hour is not likely. I would doubt the accuracy of the scale.

Note to "Jenn." Digested food weighs the same as freshly eaten food.

Yes, you could easily have lost that much water, but that loss is put back again very quickly when you rehydrate. My husband used to row and he could lose as much as 12 pounds on race day - but he quickly regained it.

In my opinion the best time to weigh is first thing in the morning, after going to the bathroom but before eating or dressing. If you always weigh in this manner you know that any loss or gain is real.

Yep, basically when you eat you "temporarily" gain weight because you're full or something. It's just water weight like the other girl said. If you want an accurate weight, weigh yourself after your food has had time to digest.

the best time is as soon as you wake up from what I have read, because that should be a relativly consistant time.
