If you claim that this is only an "arab" thing, your a racist. Arabs are as capable as any other race, they only have the misfortune of being cursed with Islam.
Its amazing, for example Islamic countries translate 1/5....one fifth as many books as Greeks do...think about that!!!! They literally get almost no intellectual edification...no other views...their universe is so tiny.

So that means there are no Islamic intellectuals, no Muslim university graduates, no Muslims members of any government? That Muslims in America are illeterate? No - it does not. You are taking one particular factor of the governments of "arab" (and to help dispell your ignorance Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Indonesia are NOT Arab countries) countries and saying "well that must be the cause of all their problems" Perhaps I could say that living in New York means you have a greater chance of "becomming" gay. It is the social dynamics of a region that determine the literacy rate, the same as it is most likely that there are just as many gay people in Cairo as there are in New York, it's just they cannot be gay in public, or even in their own minds.
Many Islamic countries are in Africa - the most underdeveloped continent in the world. It is not surprising therefore that many Muslims are illiterate - because many of the worlds poorest people also happen to be Muslim.
Another factor is that many Islamic countries in the Middle East and North Africa have pretty totalitarian reigemes, which means that intelectuals are frowned upon severely. This would explain the lack of Islamic intelectuals, THEIR GOVERNMENT not their religion.
You bring a huge slur upon the many European and American Muslims who ARE intelligent, "despite" their religion.

For you have been bombing theM to oblivion, and for over two centuries now. Murdering their leaders, teachers, university professors, doctors, etc. Stealing their wealth and natural resources, acquiring it on the cheap and devious means and selling it back to them at the heights price possible.
Installed your proxies and viceroys instead of their natural born pious elite.
As if that is not enough, you have introduced to them all the social ailments- your values and inhumane virtues- any society can handle, prostitution, drugs, alcohol, gambling , etc.
All for the hope that they will forget about Islam and worship you instead, but to no avail. They have woken up while you were intoxicated with their children and fathers blood and there is nothing you can do about it now You have left it unchecked for too late.

It seems that you're just here to spread hatered. Its just a matter of what kind of times we're in. From about 600AD to about 1700AD or so, muslims had been the most educated around the world. Unfortunately its not the same anymore. But the trend has recently started to change.

I doubt it's directly tied to Islam (and trust me, I'm no Islamic apologist!). More likely, if it's accurate, is that it's tied to the fact that many Islamic countries are totalitarian dictatorships. Dictators don't want their populace to be educated, as that makes it that much harder to rule them.
