American Eskimo dogs were originally small German Spitz dogs. The Spitz are a multifunctional dog, bred in all sizes, and used for herding, hunting, guarding, working (pulling wagons and sleds) in Germany..

they were brought to America as trick dogs for the Barnum/Baily circus...
So, they have to be very trainable, and are originally bred to be an all around working dog..I'm betting you can teach it to do just about anything..It would be a better birder if there was another, more experienced dog for it to copy and learn from.

Any dog can hunt. You just might have a harder time training a dog that isn't ment to hunt.
