Actually no there isn't arsenic in avocados. I have a friend that feeds one of her macaws avacado as a treat and he LOVES it. But due to how fattening it is he only gets it rarely. What makes it poisonous for parrots has to do with chemicals released by the pit. And its not just with avocados. Anything with a pit like a peach, if you give parrots the fruit closest to the pit, they can get very sick because of the chemicals released, but they aren't as strong as in avocados. So technically its the pits' chemicals that can kill parrots, not the actual "meat" of the fruit!

The avocado seed has something like arsenic in it. Birds - not just cockatoos cannot tolerate this.
