Any "virgin" drink is one without alcohol.

A "Bloody Mary" is named for Mary, Queen of Scots, not the Virgin Mary.

I'm a Christian and I've never heard another Christian make fun of the Virgin Mary. There is no drink called the Virgin Mary, there is one called the Bloody Mary, which is a reference to Queen Mary I of England, a former queen of England and has nothing to do with the Virgin Mary.

Let me tell you a story:

James is said to have taken his mother, Mary, to Ephesus, in Turkey, to live after the death of Jesus. Not alot was said of her in the Bible, and not much said after she went to Turkey.

The church was later trying to convert the people of this region to Christianity, but, the people would not give up their goddess Diana. They were very attached to the concept of a goddess and loved her. So, the church decided to give Mary a higher status and with time they could move Diana out and Mary in. The people would accept another goddess concept, which the church gave her at that time. That is where the legacy of Mary began. Later she was moved from goddess image to what people know today, but those people converted to Christianity because of the concept.

This is no reason to make fun of her-but, this is how she came to be what she is now. It was a story about her made up by the church of the day.

Added note:

It is a mistranslation that says Mary was a virgin. From Hebrew and Aramaic, to Greek to English. The Hebrew word for young woman was mistranslated as virgin. It was a young woman which could, or could not, have been married.

I don't make fun of the virgin Mary. One interesting thought: she is referred to as "Blessed Virgin", but some forget that Jesus had brothers and sisters, and those children were concieved by natural childbirth. She was a virgin when she bore Jesus, but her relationship with Joseph... well, let's just say she's not a virgin anymore. and that's not a biased statement, how do you think Jesus had siblings?

Two things:

I don't drink, so I have no idea what you are talking about. (Obviously the person that named the beverage wasn't a Christian.)

I don't make fun of the Virgin Mary either. She was one special young lady in God's eyes. That is enough for me. (I don't pray to her like Catholics do though. My prayers go directly to the Father.)

If they are making fun of her then they are not Christians. I am a Christian and believe in the virgin birth. I do not believe in praying to her as the catholics do. Jesus is the only way

Technically, a "virgin mary" is a "bloody mary" with no vodka in it.

Since the "bloody mary" wasn't named after the Blessed Virgin, neither is the "virgin mary".
