This shower is sort of recipe-oriented. Any cute ideas that we could do? And is it weird if I don't hand out any gifts for the people who attend the shower?

Most people hate the games, but some tolerable ones you could do is bring out a tray of 20-30 kitchen items (like a can opener, measuring cups/spoons, rolling pin... which will then become a gift for the bride-- my friend did it for about $45 by going to Dollar Tree and Target.. To get an idea of what to get (this place is expensive but has great ideas http://ww2.williams-sonoma.com/cat/index.cfm?cid=ctli&root=shop&src=hme&cmType=NavLink)). Show everyone the tray for 1 minute then take it way. Then pass out paper and pens and see how many items they can remember. It is fun and simple. Something else you can do is play "How well do you know the bride?" where you ask 10 questions about her favorites and then see who got the most right. The winners can get simple prizes like recipe holders (Dollar Tree seriously has things that make awesome favors and prizes). I would give favors because it is expected, but you don't have to make them fancy. Dollar store frames or recipe boxes are great!

If you are worried about the cost, make this be the time that you are giving the big present to your friend, and give a much smaller present at her wedding. If money simply isn't there, then just do the best you can or team up with another friend to co-sponsor it.

Good Luck!

Its not weird if you don't hand out gifts to the people who attend. I have never been to a bridal shower where they handed out gifts. The shower is for the bride to get gifts not the guests. Just have a good assortment of snacks and drinks.

Good Luck!

Surprise your friend with a semi-version of the Newlywed Show. Put together a list of questions and go video tape her fiance answering those questions. Things like: "How did you meet?" "What is your favorite thing about her?" etc. Also, make sure to get a sweet message from him at the end of the taping.

At the shower, ask your friend the same questions as you asked her fiance. Videotape her responses as well. Play the video of her fiancees answers. It will be a lot of fun for her to see how her fiancee responded. At the end give her the video for their memories.

The most important thing is to make it all a surprise for your friend. Do not tell her what is going on until after you have asked all of the questions. Then surprise her with the video answers & message from her fiancee.

I went to a shower where everyone brought an assigned spice (cinnamon, garlic powder, cumin, thyme, celery salt etc...) to "spice up their marriage"
Game: have the people (without being able to see the food) sniff the foods to figure out what it is.
It is sort of not cool to give a small gift to your guests. if it's recipe oriented why not type up your favorite cookie recipe and attach it to 2 or 3 of the cookies you made. that would be cute, appreciated, and cheap.

When my sister got married, we had a pampered chef bridal shower for her. But we played this one game that was really fun. We got a package of toilet paper, and the grandmas from both sides of the family and some tape. We had to "design" wedding dresses out of the toilet paper and tape on the grandmas. We had a blast!!

Well there's decorate a pair of panties and the bride chooses the winner, divide into teams and make a dress out of toilet paper (bride judges the best again), everyone bring a pair of crazy panties and the bride has a certain number of tries to guess who brought what and keeps the ones she gets right. What about giving teams certain recipe ingredients and they have 20 minutes to make something...
