My husband and I might have to PCS there and I would like to know if someone can tell me the good and the bad about the area.

I don't live at Kirtland anymore but I was stationed there from 93-99. It is a great assignment if you overlook the base. What I mean is, the city of Albuquerque is very laid back and the whole southwest culture is awesome. The people on the base seem to have a chip on their shoulders all the time but the civilian population is pretty cool. The city has grown immensely since 99 and still growing. You can go skiing up on Sandia Crest and play a round of golf in the valley the same day. The base elevation is 5300 feet and the crest is about 11,000 feet. The air is very dry due to the desert and altitude. I have been trying to get back ever since 99. I want to retire there. Old Town Albuquerque is a great area for shopping, you also have one of the biggest hot air balloon festivals in the world every year in the fall. I hope this helps.
