i often wonder cause most questions under religion and spirituality seem to be people mocking my Faith. I have respect for everyone no matter what Faith or denomination or colour or creed. Why then is it always that atheists and non-believers come on here to trash my Faith with their twisted and trashy answers or questions. I do volunteer work in the community because i am called to do that as a Christian. I do youth work (so youth stay out of trouble) i dont think i would have done this if i had a different upbringing cause the world as we know it suggest that its every person for him/herself....that which is selfish and not based on love. Do these non-believers come here because their own lives are so messed up they have to trash Christianity for a laugh...its common for the uneducated to laugh at that which they dont understand, i have yet to see a Christian who asks mocking questions because of their non-belief...does this boil down to a matter of respect? just wondering....

Chreitian IV - u want to know how i call myself wise, it cause i have wisdom and understanding on a Christian level and on a human level too. you on the other hand claim you dont understand why anyone would need faith...duh. why would you understand or be wise then...what gives you an inkling of an idea that you ought to challenge me on grounds of wisdom. you dont know the first thing about me - you're close to the truth about intelligence, anyone can have that, i was born with it, but i developed wisdom and understanding later.
to some other answerers - i never once said i expect ALL people to believe as i do, i was merely wondering why everyone made it their business (when they so clearly dont want to partake in a religion) to come on here and talk about my faith, a bit like a donkey talking on dentistry...

Geologist - yea, i dont think i'm better than anyone but the events which started in my family life by my birth, (my dad converted to Christianity because he needed help giving up drinking, he is now a fully fledged minister for the last 20 or so years) this is because i nearly did and he turned to prayer. a few of my best friends were muslim, iv'e had hindu and jew pals u name it, and yea, tolerated atheists like yourself without mocking them which u say you're happy to do with christians as long as...(etc) -THATS- the difference. you try to very convincingly manipulate words to make yourself not seem bigoted, but you fail, with distinction might i add, because you declare yourself to be tolerant when u so obviously are not. i dont think i'm above anyone else, but i do think i can be a witness for christ in that my life has very spiritually meaningful and miraculous events in it. thats what makes the difference to me, i have a purpose, MAYBE, seeing as u landed here, u need 1 too?

Good point....The unbelievers are here to display their bigotry and ignorance...and then they expect us to believe they are the ones who are 'tolerant'...what a joke...don't mind them...they are doing what they are suppose to do....namely, make themselves look like fools.
And remember... "Knowing this, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts..."
(2 Peter 3:3)

Jesus said: " Blessed are you when men shall hate you, ...and shall reproach you, and cast your name out as evil, for the Son of man's sake. Rejoice, and leap for joy!...for GREAT is your reward in heaven!" (Luke 6:22)

My hat off to you for doing volunteer work, it is noble to do so. Also it is noble and humble to give respect to those of different cultural and social upbringings that yourself, that in this day in age is hard to do.

Even I myself undertaken such volunteer work and have been doing so since I was 14. I also do not disrespect people based on religion and I have may a time on here defended the Muslim faith due to sheer ignorance of others.

Given this would it surprise you that im an actually an athiest?

What really I find desrespectful and cowardly is the ability of the Christian follower to hide behind they're religion: that only Christians can do works of good in this world, that Christians are (by nothing more than by a name) selfless, that to be Christian you have the moral code of which to live life, that only Christians have the education (and also life experience) to understand the world, that only by being Chrsitian can you have a loving relationship.

Do you not understand that these traits are common in ALL people regardless of upbringing, religion, faith, education. Would it surprise you that I would call you ignorant and bigoted if this is the kind of question that de-means all other ways of life based solely on your religion.

Please dont be like many Chrsitians out there and accept that your faith does not in anyway make you a better person than the next, then maybe we will stop mocking your intolerance.

The thing I love best about Christianity is the Inquisition - wasn't that just the high point of our faith? - we should bring it back and murder all of the atheists for not allowing Jesus into their hearts.

Blessed are those that come in the Name of Jesus...

Amen sister...

Seriously though, Praying to the messenger is WRONG - but praying/talking to God is okay...

Many of the messages out there have been muddled by time and manipulative people. Lying to children about Santa is Pure Evil incarnate - but I understand that we do it in the name of Jesus, so that makes it okay.

Another example "Christmas is For Giving", sounds good doesn't it, however, it should read "Christmas is Forgiving", which is the strongest message???

It is not your duty to undertake charity work, etc just because you are a christian, it is still your choice. Helping a fellow man is not an obligation, however it often is rewarding. A few people I know undertake charity work simply to seek favour with God and assure themselves of a place in Heaven - Jesus says he would not accept such people, and neither do I.

So, keep up the good work, as your motives, from what you have written, appear to be honourable...

people are people, with various skills. Christianity is likewise a "vast church" reflecting many alternative concepts and interpretations. And Christians variety from those who sense compassion when you have not got here around the way, to those who imagine that those who do not believe yet behave nicely should be "kept", to those with extreme beliefs that some different person's lack of beliefs or differing beliefs received't purely recommend their own condemnation, yet will convey down divine retribution on the entire community or perhaps the international. So some may have the urgent favor to castigate those who've perspectives that variety from theirs. or perhaps a lot less extreme believers, and non-believers, have lapses (who's appropriate?). in my opinion, i imagine members to this dialogue board are oftentimes charitable, regardless of our imperfections.

If the Christians did not come here preaching then people would have no one to mock. Git It? You aren't the only person to do voluntary work you know others to it whilst not feeling the need to simultaneously shove their faith down others throat in the process!

Peace, my Sister!
Firstly, I am not a Christian. What I am is my business, but I will tell you that it is very old, and that my study of it bought me my own epiphany. I don't spread its' word, don't publicise it. It's out there, anyone can find it if they need to.
Whilst I sympathise with you, that yes, Christians (and other religions) get a lot of intolerant abuse on here, and I respect that you've personally made it your business to be the best person you can be, I think that an awful lot of secular types see so much injustice and strife, and war, misery and death in the name of religion, each party claiming theirs is the one true God, that they lash out at Christians, and others of faith, when their heads rise over the parapet.
Conversely, if you haven't seen the Christians on here ragging on the atheists, you haven't been paying attention. Either party gets short shrift from me. A blunt reply, asking them to respect the beliefs of others, not ridicule them, and I also report insulting behaviour to the moderators.
You have your faith. Congratulations, I truly hope you're happy. Please, let sleeping dogs lie.

I'm an atheist.
You're bound to get some people who just want to trash stuff and be offensive (I've reported abuse by people for being offensive to Christians), some people like to gently poke fun, and others want an in-deapth theological debate. Way I see it, both the Christians and the atheists have done a good deal of all of the above.

Atheists are believers. They don't belive in Jesus or an actually God, but belive in something. I'm a atheist myself and I do not mock any your faith(I'm not talking of you, of course), my best friend is christian. Many people think we are mocking of your belives, but we are just saying what we think. It's is true a lot of atheists are agresive with christians, and that is wrong. Any fanaticism is wrong. I do volunteer work when I have time, too.

Maybe things would be different if fanatics did not do name-calling (such as the comments about "cretins" or saying that we are messed up) toward the unbeliever. It's amazing how the standards of "Christian love" are irrelevant. I was always taught that we know Christians by their love. Non-believers prefer to live our own lives and not have religion shoved in our face. I mean, would you like it if someone of another religion insisted that you must read their holy book and accept their teachings?

So, if we are told that we have to believe in certain things that cannot (or never have been) proved, then we are not going to willingly say, "oh yes, I will believe you."

But if you want to believe in those things, that is your choice and your business. "Live and let live".

How on earth can you name yourself wisdom? You promote yourself as some do gooder. you belittle people who disagree with your world view yet claim intolerance to your own beliefs.
I don't understand why any adult needs beliefs or faith. Faith is idolatory. IT IS THE SUSPENSION OF DISBELIEF. It is an admission of foolishness. Even if there is a God would he really want to be worshipped?
YOU DON'T NEED TO BE EDUCATED TO THINK FOR YOURSELF.

Well that entire question was just mocking atheists and 'non-believers' so who's better? And 'uneducated'? I'm very well educated in Christianity, that's why I turned my back on it a long time ago. I respect your right to believe, respect ours not to.
