Hey, I'm not Mexican but I lived there for several years and I've watched them cook beans many times. They put the beans on in the early morning and cook them all day, with no seasoning whatsoever. After the beans cook, they will put them in a blender, then they put them back in the pan and (refry). They use a little salt and a chili blend, with a dash of sour orange juice. That's all! The beans are delicious.
The Mexican's know how to cook such delicious meals and their presentation is wonderful. Did you know they use sour orange in many of their dishes, which brings out the flavor(s), and maybe that is what makes the beans so good.

Actually Murphy is right. Lard and lots of it. After the beans are cooked, put one big heaping spoonfull of lard in a skillet and then add some beans (be careful not to add too much juice). Then add some garlic powder and some cumin powder and salt to taste. Let the beans boil hard for about 3 - 5 minutes and then mash them good(if that's how you like them). If not, enjoy like that.

Add salt for taste. and Garlic for the farts. you can also add Onions. The salt pork or ham is just to eat with corn bread. but the top part is for re-fried beans. you can make re-fried beans with bacon drippings. taste good but a killer with your cholesterol. But most important is to cook them slow. use a slow cooker. overnight.
