because they are in control of their problem and verbalizing it reminds and re-enforces that.

I'm a tee totaller. Don't get me wrong I've had my fair share of drinks but I started young and then one day I decided I could not handle the hangovers anymore. I was a crap drinker who went from very happy drunk to very sick drunk at the click of the fingers! So I made the decision not to drink ever again. I don't actually like the taste of most alcoholic drinks anyway!

So now I drink water when I go out because there is only so much cola you can drink! I drive everywhere and my boyfriend thinks its great because I'm a cheap date LOL! What really bugs me about not drinking is other people attitude to me not drinking. I always get people saying... go on one is not going to kill you. I just wish people could respect my choice I have made. I NEVER say to them... go on have a glass of water it won't kill you! I would not say I'm proud I don't drink I just choose not to do it!

We are proud that we don't need to follow the crowd, even though people think we're weird because we don't drink. By the way not all tee totallers have had a previous drink problem, myself and my husband certainly haven't. But we have seen the damage that drink can do to people and their families.

Alcohol, like nicotine, is addictive. As is the case with millions of drinkers in our society, alcohol (and nicotine) controls them...they don't control it. They're not the "social" drinker...man, they're hardcore and strive to prove it every day of their lives!

I guess the reason they (the teetotalers you're talking about) feel proud and aren't ashamed to admit it is because they feel drinkers are weak so, therefore, they must be strong. They like to tell everyone they meet how good they are and enhance it by putting others down. I refer to these individuals as SSB's (sacrilegious sanctimonious sons of b*****s). There are other people out there who could be termed a teetotaler because they don't drink, but they don't condemn either.

I agree that if a person has a problem with drinking and stops that its good, what I object to is those that do that and feel a need to be a blowhard about it and that the whole world needs to know.. If you are proud of your accomplishment, more power to you, but keep it to yourself. If you never started to drink, that's your thing, nobody else cares.

Because they are sad pathetic losers. My son doesn't drink and has never drunk alcohol ( a personal life choice) but he doesn't go on about being a TEETOTALLER.

Drinking alcohol or something else should be as simple as the choice between tea and coffee. People who make a big deal about it have obviously got some kind of personal problem.

For a tea totaller, the proud comes in the fact that they have self pride that they have been able to control something that has controlled their lives for a while. That is a very hard accomplishment. Similar to the smoker that has gotten off of cigarettes. These are both habits that are hard to break. I quit smoking now for two yrs and I am proud of my will power. No I wouldn't put any one down for drinking or smoking. It is just a personal goal that has been achieved.

The phrase is tea totaller, which originally meant that they only drank tea, nothing alcoholic.
I think only judgemental people are proud of what they do, whether they drink or not.

What are tee totallers? I'm proud when I don't drink. I'm also proud when I do drink because I can hold my liquor.

Hang on, I am about to disprove your question. I am not proud I don't drink. First, I don't like feeling out of control. Second, alcoholism runs on both sides of my family and I am not going to take the risk. That's not pride, but it is logical. Sorry to burst your bubble. I'm a teetotaller who is not proud of it.
