I have the same problem. after years of trying to have those cute haircuts that are made for straight fine hair, I just recently found a hairdresser who said I should work with my curls, and that they were beautiful. : ) Anyways, she gave me a great haircut she says she"cut into my hair" and the style will stay no matter what I do. She also recommended an awesome shampoo and conditioner by Redken, called "Smooth Down". Its made with macadamia oil. Leave in conditioner also helps on rainy days. Good luck!

Hey there Miss curlyhead!
I have a few questions for you:
Is your hair:
* Thick and curly?
* coarse and curly?
Or
* Fine and curly?
the kind of product you use on your hair type makes a big difference.
The kind of flat iron you use play a bigger part in how your hair will respond . Ceramic plated ( not coated) Irons work the best, because they absorb the heat better and release higher levels of infared and negative charged Ions which work in straightening the hair from it's inner core to it's outer, preventing in less stress to the hair.
The degree in which you set your flat iron will also make a difference. If your hair is thick, you need a higher tempture setting. take smaller sections of hair , use a thermal pre styling product prior to blowdrying and flat ironing. This will protect your hair and keep it smooth during straightening. Applying an Anti humectant to the hair after flat ironing will help repel outside moisture from entering the hair. however, if your in the middle of a thunder storm or hurricane, no one's hair is safe:)
The other alternative would be chemically straightening your hair with a certified stylist. Its an amazing procedure that leaves the hair silky straight. You won't even need to flat iron it , unless you want to smooth out your cuticle a little more.
And you only have to re touch every 6 months
It's definately something to look into but be sure you consult with your stylist first and don't be afraid to ask any question you may have in regards to the health of your hair. The right stylist will be happy to answer all of your questions:)
Otherwise, here are some tips that can definately help you in maintaining a better head of curly hair and promote a better response when styling it:
*Don't wash hair every day. This kind of hair needs the natural oils from your scalp to reduce frizz.
*Believe it or not, grease, mousses and gels make caring for this kind of hair harder!! Chemical build-ups require more washing than is healthy.
*Instead of sleeping on your regular pillow case, buy a silk pillow case or sleep on silk pajamas (with wet or dry curls). It doesn't make your hair all matted and frizzy, your curls stay nice and smooth for the morning. :)
-Invest in a quality flat iron (such as a ceramic or jade iron). They are quite costly, however the outcome is worth it. Cheap irons (some claim to be ceramic but really are not) will tend to pull at your hair and really fry your ends.
* use an Anti- humectant after flat ironing, this will repel any moisture in the air

SAME PROBLEM...
I either let it go natural and use ALOT of mouuse (sp?) or I use a straight iron or a large curling iron, (2") I keep the iron on longer then usual because my hair is SOOOOO Thick and heavy...
I will use either serum or if it is humid or I know it is going to rain I will use Tressemme 'Fine Mist Hair Spray' I spray, all layers, especially top.
Hope this helps, I have battled with my hair all of my life and this does it the best for me. Because our hair is curly and thick we have to use more then the normal amount of hair products

I'm probably much older than you. But I've found that fighting natural curls just isn't worth the outcome. Especially since, as you said, the outcome is usually that as soon as I leave the house humidity or something gets to it and POOF! Back to natural anyway.
A hairdresser gave me a great haircut for curly hair. It's much easier not to try to force it into something else.

if your hair is naturally curly like mine, then there's really no way to escape the frizz and curl that happens when it rains. all i really ever do is make sure i have an umbrella or a hood or something to protect my hair from getting automatically frizzy. there's really no "miracle hair spray" or anything that will work. if you ever do find something, let me know! but when its dry, i usually just straighten it and it doesnt get curly again until it gets wet.

the worse thing you can do is try to go against the nature of your hair. you'll spend tons of time and money and NEVER win! it's curly - accept it. there are tons of products on the market that help with frizz - try a frizz serum. it won't matter what the weather is like, it won't get bushy. and stay away from brushes!

What kind of serums did you use to keep your hair straight? For me, I liked the Sleek.look by Matrix line to combat humidity. The cons are is that it is pricey and the jewel of the line, Iron smoother, contains alcohol. But it works. But I agree with everyone, work with your curls not against it. This website www.naturallycurly.com is the best.

Well you could go get a perm,and then get a hair shampoo,and conditioner that tames frizzy hair.If you dont wanna get it wet,just wrap it up in a cute,and fashionable silk scarf or wear a cute cap that matches your outfit!LOL!Then if that dosen't work then maybe you should go to your nearest hair salon!

You need to go to a hair salon and get it chemically straightened. Call around to local hair dressers to see if they provide that service as it is a 'specialty' area for hair dressers. Good luck.
