Hello. My husband and I are interested in purchasing a Digital Camera. I want something that is somewhat easy to use. But at the same time is good quality with zoom features. This would be used for concerts, family pictures, outdoor travelling pictures, things like that (nothing professional). We are also looking to stay under $100 or atleast no more than $130 or so.

Thanks!

Have you thought about the new disposable digitals? They are supposed to be great quality because they are recycled so they have to be made well in order to work well..

The price range for new, good, digital cameras starts at about $200 and up, and then you need to buy a memory card for about another $40.

That said- there are deals to be found on some of the basic models from last year that might get you down into the low $100's.

You can also save money by shopping on line from such reputable retailers as www.buydig.com, Newegg.com and others (be careful- as there are some slimey ones out there)

But- if you really are fixed at $100. then try the Canon A410 link below. It's not the world's best camera- but I don't know anything better for the price. If you're willing to go $250- that really opens up the doors.

Here's what you miss when you spend only $100:
The sensor that the camera uses is really small, so it's only 3.2Mp, whereas the current standard is 6-7Mp. It also has very limited low light capability- so you better be taking pics outdoors, or with a flash really close up. also- the screen on the back isn't that big or very high resolution. and- instead of a high quality rechargable battery- you use AAs. Some people like the AA batteries- as you can find them anywhere- but you really then also need to spend a bit more cash on a good set of rechargable NiMHi and a charger- which adds to the cost. Oh - the cameras a bit slow to startup and focus- so it's not that responsive.

But- other than off brands and older cameras- I don't know what else is out there? anybody?

Consider saving a little more money and spending $200+ and then you can choose from a lot of really nice new cameras that do a great job.

good luck.

It sounds like you have a sizable amount of picture taking in mind. I would definitely consider something in the $200 to $300 range, once you include the cost of a 256 MB memory card, which is almost essential. You probably should also have a spare battery when traveling.

First choice: a Canon camera.
Second choice: a Fuji FinePix camera.

Go to www.dpreview.com & read the reviews.

Two very important features to look for are: a fast shutter response time; and good low light performance.

get a cheap Kodak digitial system. They are easy to use and cost effective. As you gain experience, you may want to trade up to a better camera. But as time passes, the cameras are getting much better and cheaper!
