Your son is fine. I mean look at Nicole Richie she's like 23 or somethind and weighs 82 lbs. Anyways it depends on what your doctor says.

Yes-your son is approx. 31 lbs. underweight, according to a children's health guide I checked out. Ideal weight for a 9 yr. old is between 95 and 110 lbs. That is for a 4'9 child with normal bone structure.

I think he is probably on the thin size for his height. If he were shorter, the weight would be fine. If you are concerned that he may be unhealthy, take him to his doctor and have them do some bloodwork to rule out anemia, malnutrition, dehydration, etc. If the doctor finds any of these conditions, he will give you ideas on how to correct the situation. Be sure he is eating well-balanced meals and you can always supplement with PediaSure.

Can he walk without wheezing? Run easily?

Does he eat a healthy diet? Get sufficient exercise? Is he a nice kid?

You provide insufficient data to make any kind of an assessment.

Did you take him to a pediatrician? He or she would know the height and weight normals for a nine year old.

It depends- muscle is more dense, and is much heavier that fat, also, to get an accurate measurement of fitness/health, you have to to a step test, or bleep test.
