If you say "Q-pon," how do you pronounce "coupe", "coup", "acoustic", etc. And what about "amateur" - is it "ama-chur" or "ama-tur"?

People in different parts of the country will pronounce things differently. I live in the South now and pronounce the words as "Q-pon" and "ama-chur". However I was raised in the Midwest and pronounced the words as "coo-pon" and "ama-tur". Funny how where you live determins how you pronounce some words. As far as coupe and coup I pronounce them with the "oo" sound and a silent "p". Very interesting question, enjoyed answering it. Thanks!

Take your pick:: cou‧pon  /[koo-pon, kyoo-pon] .

Don't assume there is any logic in pronounciation. Remember George Bernard Shaw once demonstrated that the word 'fish,' for example, might be spelled 'ghoti' by borrowing the 'gh' from a word like laugh, the 'o' from women and the 'ti' from nation.
