My suggestion is start reading about it. If it rings true to you start heading on down the path. If it doesn't, try something else. There is lots of good stuff out there and something is bound to work for you.

A religion is not something you simply start doing, a religion is a group of people with shared beliefs, practices and doctrines, if you do not follow the same principles as a religion it is pointless trying to fit into their definition – you have your own beliefs, you find a term to describe those beliefs if you are looking for a place to fit into or a community to be a part of, you don't change your beliefs to fit into a group.

Wicca is a priesthood, it is oath-bound lineage based meaning that to become Wicca you have to be initiated into a BTW Wicca coven with lineage back to Gardner or New Forest Coven as the inner-court teachings are only taught to those within Wicca and passed down through it's members. Inner-court teachings are essentially what make up the basis of Wicca, beliefs, practices, doctrines, gods and mysteries, they are not taught to those who are not Wicca, instead placeholders are used – for example gods may be referred to as Great Mother Goddess and Horned God, these are not the real names or identities of the gods Wicca follow, these are not taught until you are initiated into a coven – this helps maintain the integrity and mysteries within Wicca. Most of what you will read on Wicca is outer-court material, simply placeholders to help teach people outside of Wicca some of its ideas.

As Wicca is a priesthood in this fashion becoming Wicca can be very hard to do, within Wicca there is constant studying, for most they will study for several years before they consider Wicca right for them and become a Seeker (someone seeking a coven to join). Wicca needs a lot of commitment from the start; some Seekers can go decades before finding the right coven, even moving houses to be next to a potential coven to join. When a coven is found and they are willing to take you on then you then start what is traditionally a year and a day training before you are initiated into Wicca and have earned the right to use the title of Wicca.

A lot of people do it and a lot of people become Wicca with ease, however if you are not even sure about your own beliefs then this is not the path for you, it would be a lot better to figure out what you do believe and find people with similar beliefs, if this is Wicca you may want to consider Neo-wicca or Paganism rather than just Wicca, but first thing is first – decide what you believe in, then you will know if it is a good religion for you or not without having to ask other people.

It's not my place to judge where you are spiritually, but the wording in your question strikes me as a bit odd. The opening statement reads as if you are bored and want something to do. A religion isn't something you "start doing", it is a set of beliefs and principles that guide your daily life. Again, it may just be the wording, but your question comes off more like you are looking for a hobby.

As to whether or not it is good or bad....well that's up to you. Research it a bit more, talk to some reliable practitioners, and see if it resonates with you. You will ultimately be the judge. Our opinion as to whether or not it is right for you really doesn't matter one whit in the long run.

And as to the book recommendations above; Scott Cunningham was a member of CVW but left the tradition to practice a solitary, eclectic form of Neo-Paganism...nothing wrong with that but I really don't recommend his books (which were written in the 80's and early 90's by the way) if your interest is specifically Wicca. Silver RavenWolf isn't even Wicca and her books are considered by many to be a waste of time and money. I would agree with that assessment.

mmm.

What is a good religion in your opinion?

Wicca is a spiritual and magickal path. The one comes with the other. It may be that you are more suited to finding out about the different Pagan traditions if that interests you. There is a book by an author called Pete Jennings which looks at the various traditions etc. That may be interesting. Its called something like "Pagan Paths"

Good luck

Wicca not bad, per se, just a bunch of horse hockey. Gerald Gardner and some other guys ripped off some rituals from Freemasonry, added in stuff like worshipping in the nude, and then claimed it was a millenia-old pre-Christian earth religion.

Spells and "magick" don't work. It's a religion for spoiled middle-class white kids who want to claim they are persecuted.

Dont rely on others opinion...read "Wicca: A guide for the solitary practioner" by Scott Cunningham. This will give an idea of what the wiccan religion is all about.

Also here is a website that gives you information on the different traditions related to wicca:

Read, read, read...that is the only suggestion I have for you.

Wicca is peace loving, naturing hugging religion. Read up on it Silver RavenWolf and Scott Cunnigham have good books for beginners. Scotts books are older wrote mostly in the 60's. Doint lesson to the ppl that say it is evil because they gest judge a book by its cover.

It's a sham created circa 1950 by Gerald Gardner, a masochist and Crowley disciple who liked to be beaten by strong willed women. Followers are self deluded into believing they have magical powers.

I've met Wiccans and they seem to be a content, peace-loving people. Do some research and see what you think. It's really up to you, and don't be discouraged by negative judgments from fanatics. Some people might choose to dismiss you, but stay true to your heart.

If you want your earthly existence to end up as a rotting corpse buried in a stinking grave, any belief system will work.

If you want eternal life, peace, and security, you need to accept Jesus Christ, and worship the one, true God.

He'll provide all the "power" you need, and do it in a way that is in true harmony with all creation.

Since everything was made by him, this also makes perfect sense.
