sorry to sound like a know it all but i am so there! the project name for the clio whilst in development was CL10 the vehicle press spied the CL10 and assumed it was clio, Renault liked the way this sounded so used it. easy. this is a true story!
another random one is the Mitsubishi starion, the boss of Mitsubishi see a mustang and wanted to create a jap version called the stallion they designed and built the car, put it in production, then noticed the spelling was incorrect by this time it was to late hence the starion! brilliant

How about some of the other names Tildia, Versa Nissan here in the USA. Magnet van. "Clio was a character in English television show played by a young french woman" so there it is!

Car makers have to think up names that mean absolutely nothing in any language.

Ford brought out a fastback and decided to call it Caprino - until they found out that means goat sh*t in the Neapolitan dialect. That's how the Ford Carpri came about.

well its either sone foriegn word that mean something like..'the key'
Or its a poor translation , as i felt it a right stupid cli*o driving one as a hire car....
