Why name a cat?----they'll come, only if they feel like it.....(g) at least the four we've had behave that way, and most of our catloving friends say the same.....
Get a baby names book and poke through it for ideas.
Check out _Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats_; it was the basis for the musical _Cats_. Here's one of the poems to enjoy!
The Naming of Cats
T.S. Eliot
The naming of cats is a difficult matter,
It isn't just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I'm mad as a hatter
When I tell you a cat must have three
different names.
First of all, there's the name
that the family use daily,
Such as Victor, or Jonathan,
George or Bill Bailey--
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names
if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen,
some for the dames;
Such as Plato, Admetus,
Electra, Demeter--
But all of them sensible everyday names.
But I tell you,
a cat needs a name that's particular,
A name that is peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he
keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers,
or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind,
I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quazo or Coripat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellyrum--
Names that never belong
to more than one cat.
But above and beyond
there's still one name left over,
And that is the name that you will never guess;
The name
that no human research can discover--
But The Cat Himself Knows,
and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought,
of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular Name.

I just adopted a dilute calico female last week. She's so petite....still skinny from her stray days. Anyways, I think calicos are just so feminine looking....frail and beautiful. So even though her shelter name was Dakota (it DOESN'T fit her), I've renamed her Lotus. Calicos remind me of flowers with all their colors. So maybe you could think of flowers you like; Lily, Rose, Orchid, etc.
Some of the names I had in mind before settling permanently on Lotus were Arwen, Callysto, Magnolia, Cypress, Isis....I like unique names:)
Good luck!

We had a calico cat we named Patches. :-)
By the way, kudos to you and your mom for taking this cat in. Every years 10 Million dogs and cats are put to sleep, because they don't have homes.
Please spay her.

I'll share a site that will help you choose your own pet name.
Choose "cat" and "female".... then you can choose a category of names based on "personality", "appearance", "nature" etc.
The list will be presented alphabetically... there are many great suggestions.
Visit the site here:
