The fish came down from the sign of Pisces, and if you saw the news recently. They found the oldest Christian church in Jeruslam. On the floor, was the symbol of Pisces. The two fish.

That symbol on the floor stood for two Christians, not for Pisces.

You have to interpret everything in the proper context.

A symbol used in the Christian church to denote Christian concepts is a Christian symbol, not a pagan symbol.

It doesn't matter if some pagan used the same symbol in some false religion, 15000 years ago.

Jesus made everything new again. All the old stuff has passed away.

Satan no longer rules the earth. God does.

I heard or read somewhere that it was first used by the early christians. Since the Cross (the most used symbol for christianity today) was a symbol for shame and torture, they did not want to use it. Today, we see the Cross as romantic, but that's not the way the early christians saw it back then. That's why they used the fish symbol, I think, because Jesus called His disciples to be fishermen of humans. And yes, I think I heard somewhere the fish was the symbol of pisces; but I don't really know.about that.

Hope it helps, God bless you!

For Christians it was not the sign of Pisces. It is a sign the early Christians used to identify themselves as true believers in Jesus Christ as the one and only Savior from all their sins. Jesus also told them He would make them "fishers of men." That may be why they chose the fish as a symbol.

Um, I think you are completely forgetting the fact that Jesus first called to His apostles, Simon, called Peter and Andrew, his brother to "Follow me and I will make you fishermen of souls."

That and the fish was an innocuous symbol and as such was how Christians would identify themselves to each other when they would draw a fish in the dirt during the first 3 centuries when Christians were persecuted by Rome.

The fish was a code symbol used by Christians (when they were being persecuted by pagans/polytheists in the Roman Empire).

ICHTHUS - Greek for Fish.

The Word was used as an Acronym for
Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior;

Iesus Christos, Theos Uious, Soter (or Soterios) -- spellings?

(I = Iesus, Jesus) (CH = Christos), (TH = Theos, God), (U = Uious, Son), (S = Soter, Soterios, Savior).

The symbol was also used by Christians due to Jesus' statement to the disciples that "you shall be fishers of men".

Cordially,
John

The church thought so much of fish that they required they be eaten in place of meat on Fridays, unless you preferred to just go vegetarian.
