our puppy was doing that when we first got him, we read in a book that for crate training you should first make sure its only big enough for the dog to get up, lay down, and turn around.. ours was a little too big, but for the 1st week we set the timer for every 2 hours and took the dog out and stayed till he went then RIGHT after he went we gave him a little piece of a treat.. and gradually you can stretch out the timing so its every 4 hours or so.. and you dont have to give him treats but just make sure as soon as he poops or pees outside you give the dog the world of love..

He is just a baby. At 4 months you will probably need to take him out once during the night. Whippets are generally very clean dogs and will avoid pottying in a crate if possible. Also, as someone else said, don't give him much water right before bedtime and make sure the crate is not to big.

like every one that left a answer it's best that you take the water bowl away and make sure there is not any water in the cage, take the bedding out if there been a accident, it most likely understand to not wet the bed cause they treat the cage as a den like most wild dogs would. it would be best to walk your dog to the location where it will relive it's self the most or where you have trained to to go there. if this cont wetting the cage, start training it to where a "puppy dipper" there is a few at pet stores in an pet mag. some wit let the dog to hold it if they wet the dipper. but since your dog is 15 weeks it may have to go out every 15 or 20 mins to "go" as the dog ages it will "hold it" much longer than it use to. hope the info helps.

Your pup is still a baby and like babies, they can't control their bathroom habits just yet. As a general rule, they can 'hold it' about an hour for every month of age...your pup is almost 4 months old so 4 hours is about his maximum time to 'hold it'. A smaller crate may help as well so he has no bathroom area in it. Limiting food and water after 6pm also helps. Good luck!

You need to get a smaller Crate. Dogs will not go to the bathroom in a crate that if the peed in they would have to lay in it. I have 2 labs 4 and 2 they have slept in kennels since we got them. When it's bed time they just walk in there we don't have to say anything just shut the door.

This is what worked for me in training my Chihuahua...try putting him in a crate that's only big enough for him to turn around in. The theory is that your dog won't s**t where he sleeps. The first night I put my dog in a smaller crate, it worked like a charm.

Just like you wouldn't give a 2 year old something to drink before bedtime, don't give your dog water a couple hours before bedtime. Take his water bowl and food bowl up about two hours before you go to bed. If there's nothing in his bladder, nothing will come out lol. Otherwise, if you feel bad about taking his water bowl then get up in the middle of the night and take him outside to pee.
