I dont know much about Islam, but I always under the impession the it was a peaceful religion.

NO OF COURSE THEY DONT. ISLAM IS A PEACEFUL RELIGION THAT WE MUST TREAT EVERYBODY WELL. JUST BECAUSE SOMEBODY IS NOT MUSLIM IS NO EXCUSE, HE/SHE WAS STILL PUT ON THIS EARTH BY GOD AND WE HAVE NO RIGHT TO JUDGE PEOPLE. THAT IS GODS JOB.
ISLAM IS A MISUNDERSTOOD RELIGION PURELY BECAUSE OF PEOPLE WHO CALL THEMSELVES MUSLIM BUT THEY DONT SHOW IT. THEY SHOULD PUT THEIR ENERGIES INTO PUTTING ISLAMS PRICIPLES INTO PRACTISE AND SETTING A GOOD EXAMPLE RATHER THAN BEING A BAD ADVERT FOR ISLAM.

My ex husband is a muslim and he believes in "live and let live" he did not have a problem with non muslims. He believed that Islam was the true religion but did not try to change my mind on my religion, he believed that all we need to do is compromise & treat people how we would like to be treated. He was heartbroken over the twin tower bombing & was totally against the people that did it.
He is a peaceful man with no problems about religion he does not believe suicide and murder is the way to go forward.
We may not be married now but he is still my best friend.

Of course not. Islam is no different than all other religions in concept and essence, contrary to what many believe that it is bloodthirsty, evil, oppresses women, intolerant, calls for the destruction of anything other than Islam etc.
PEACE is the Muslim greeting.

In Islam a female is considered a worthy individual that has to be respected, nurtured, protected and cared for. Islam forbids looking / treating a female - any female as a sex object.
Islam forbade white slavery and gave respect and dignity to women.
In many Islamic countries, Muslims, Christians and even Jews live together. Just as there mosques, there are churches – Nuns and priests walk in the streets and move about wearing their special apparels and crucifixes – If Islam was truly an intolerant religion an as many like to say, how come Muslims and Christians are living in harmony in many Islamic Countries?
Why are many people converting to Islam if it was such a horrifying religion? Islam denounces terrorism, racism and anti-Semitism.
Muslims, both men and women have contributed greatly in all fields including medicine, science, astronomy and architecture as well - not to mention poetry. In fact the Koran, which was revealed fourteen centuries ago, mentioned facts only recently discovered or proven by scientists.

The most comprehensive anwer is by OK, but he misses some important points. The extremeists have the upper hand among moslems. If a "moderate" moslem stands up for peace, he is killed as an apostate.
It's interesting to note that all the rules he mentions are in fact Jewish laws - 1500-2500 years older than islam (lets pick the bits we like and cobble them into a religion of conquest!).
As for Allah knowing best, "stuff that" I don't listen to tyrants or dictators and I certainly never voted for him/her/it. It seems a shame that people are so easily conned into believing that there are fairies at the bottom of their gardens. I suppose the promise of 70 clap-ridden virgins helps.

No. In the Quran, Nabi Muhhamad says that all Islamic People must and should live in peace and harmonay with Non Islam People all around the world. Read the Quran and you will understand more

A definite NO! These who do are not rational. They are usually poor and uneducated people who have been brainwashed into believing that this is the way to a better life. Their leaders who do this are power-hungry, and that is all.
Islam is a religion of peace. Too bad the media makes it look otherwise.

first thing to understand is its difference of belief. So the argument is with your beleif not with your existance.
if non-muslims want to take up arms then muslims are allowed to defend.
prophets commands to any army general he escorted out of city
you cannot kill women and children
you cannot kill men in fields
you cannot cut trees
you cannot burn yields of farms (food)
you can only fight ones with drawn wepons
when confronted with drawn wepon offer islam first then warn then strike.
if wepon is thrown away stop fight.

I think you will find that an Infidel is a person who does not believe in any of the 9 holy books ( something like that). So all those who have a religion are ok, those who do not are infidels.
As for the bible being used to kill millions, yes that is true, but Christianity and Catholicism has evolved from the barbaric stance used during the Crusades. Life has become more valuable and not something to be taken cheaply. I hear that Islam is a peaceful religion but events in the media show otherwise.
We don't tolerate terrorists from our own country so why should we tolerate them from another, no matter what their religion.

The word Islam means peace and when we muslims see people what we to say is Assalamalaiku which means "peace be with you" the problem is some of us are mis-interpreting the Quran and that's where we have the major problem.

it is peaceful. of course they don't all want to bomb all non-muslims. and i have yet to read a passage in the bible that says to live in peace with non-believers. christianity is supposedly a religion of love, yet the bible has been used to kill millions, justify slavery, oppression of women, and anyone else who can be construed as an enemy of christianity. this question is like asking if all whites believed in segregation, just because some did
