Even in the movies, they removed young John and the other women at the cross to produce a Catholic answer.
He always called Mary woman so she would not be worshiped.
He said woman behold your son. John behold your mother. This young apostle was to be adopted by Mary who already had 4 other sons and daughters as well .
In the Babylonian religion the religion of the Romans. There were three dominant Gods Isis Horus and Seb.
IHS, look familiar. The woman Semiramis who fell from heaven in an egg , She was also known as Astarte (Easter) I'm going to stop writing this book, those that are chosen can connect the dots.

Many believe as I, that Mary did not have other children. In the translation of the Bible the word cousin closely resembled brothers, also the fact that in those days family was family.
BTW - Catholics to not pray to Mary, some pray through Mary. Mary (as any mother) is often asked to interceed to go in our aid. as once you went to your mom when you'd done something wrong to smooth it over with your dad or to ask for help so in the end result your father would be proud. Catholics respect and love Mary more than most other denominations, however - they know she is NOTHING without having become the handmaid to God and Mother of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!

Jesus did not have any ACTUAL brothers or sisters. If this were true then it would fall upon them to take care of Mary. This is why Jesus told John (the only disciple not to be martyred) to behold his mother. Mary was not the mother of John. By saying this Jesus was calling Mary (the mother of God) our spiritual mother.
In Scriptural Typology Jesus is called the New Adam. What is meant by this is there is a new creation because of Jesus but also, because of Mary as well. Adam and Eve were the start of the human race (physically). Jesus and Mary are the start of the "new creature" (spiritual) when we accept Jesus Christ.
At creation the serpent deceived Adam and Eve and the Lord told the serpent there would be "enmity" (hatred for sin) by her and her seed. Mary always accepted the will of the Lord and as the MOTHER OF GOD ("full of grace") conceived without sin (immaculate conception). This truth was reaffirmed at Lordes, France when Bernadette Siberous had visions of Mary as the Immaculate Conception. Over 100 medical miracles have been attributed to it and over 200 unexplained medical healings have occurred in the past 150 years. The movie The Song of Bernadette became very popular and I highly recommend you see it as a historical fact.
Prayer is simply communication to the spiritual realm. Prayer is not restricted to God or the angels. Catholics do not worship Mary but honor her as the MOTHER OF GOD. Mary is the only human being without sin. God would not permit his Son to be born of a woman with any stain of sin.
The truth of the Catholic Church being the true Church of Christ is proven by the fact that Catholics outnumber all other Christian denominations combined. This isn't by luck but by Divine Providence. Scripture says in Acts that every day they added to their number those who were being saved.

Saint John was the cousin of Jesus...everybody should know that. Jesus said this meaning that WE should behold OUR Mother. I don't know where you got the idea that Mary had other children, but you need to find a better translation of your Bible. Who does Jesus love the most out of all humanity? His Mother of course! Shouldn't he want us to love HER as HE loves HER? Doesn't it make sense to get the mother to petition her Son for our needs the way Jesus told the people at CANA to DO AS THE WOMAN SAYS! (fill the jars with water). If Jesus is going to listen to someone, it makes sense that he would listen to his mother (who prays for our intentions) more than he would listen to the prayers and petitions of sinners.

Catholics believe that the only way to the father is through jesus, but that does not mean that we cannot ask others to pray for us. Included in the people that we ask to pray for us is mary and the Saints in heaven.
Mary is not put on equal stature as God, nor is she considered a god or goddess.

I am sorry. I should have read the entire question before answering, because I cannot give you an honest answer. We as Protestants do not pray to Mary or the Saints, because Jesus told us the only way to the Father is through Me.

According to Catholicism, Mary was chosen by God to conceive Jesus by the Holy Ghost, i.e. without having sex with a man, as a normal woman would conceive a child. So she is considered a saint, because of this, regardless of the normal life she had after having Jesus.

Jesus had no brothers and sisters through Mary because Mary was always a virgin, past, present, and today.
The reason he entrusted Mary into the care of St. John is because there were no existing siblings to care for her.
The Catholic church knows this because it actually experienced the events you relate. It didn't just read about it in a book, 2000 years later.
In particular, St. John had many disciples and founded many churches. He passed along what he knew for a fact, to his successors. They continue to pass this truth along to us today.
We can enlist Mary in our causes due to the fact that 1) she is alive in heaven with her son, Jesus, 2) she is much closer to Jesus than we are ever likely to be, 3) she always helped him with his work of redemption while she was here on earth, and 4) since Mary is truly Jesus' mother, and Jesus is truly our brother by adoption in baptism, than Mary is truly our mother by adoption, and it is perfectly appropriate for us to honor her, and to ask her for help.
Catholics do nothing out of ignorance. The Holy Spirit was pledged to the Catholic church by Christ, as the Spirit of Truth.
It's those who adopt relatively recent faith traditions, based only on very limited information and false teachers, that do things out of ignorance .... like casting aspersions on the character and holiness of the Mother of God.
May God have mercy on our souls.
