That should be determined by your surgeon. However, if you are running a fever that means there is some kind of infection, and you should NOT have surgery. Just make sure that your surgeon knows about all of your symptoms and you should be ok.
Good Luck, and I hope you feel better!

Before any surgery requiring general anesthesia, the anesthesiologist will do a thorough evaluation of the patient. If it's felt that you have a simple cold with no respiratory distress or infection in your chest, it'll probably be a go and it'll be fine. If it's felt that you are more ill than that, then the risk of anesthesia might be too great.
Typically a simple cold will not prevent surgery. Bronchitis or pneumonia certainly would.
If you're a smoker, this might be a problem as smokers tend to get upper respiratory infections with a simple cold. Non-smokers are able to better clear excess secretions of mucus from their lungs so are at much lower risk. Also they're not constantly inviting bacterial growth into their lungs by smoking :)
Make sure, if they do the procedure, that you work hard with the nurses and anesthesiologist in post-operative respiratory therapy. They might have you blowing up balloons or blowing a pinwheel or other things to exercise your lungs and clear out the effects of anesthesia. You do NOT want to develop post op pneumonia from ignoring their directions.
I hope you're able to move forward with your procedure. The stress of delay is difficult. The decision to have the surgery is difficult enough without complications at the last minute :(
Wishing you well.... and a speedy recovery.

As long as you don't have a fever I think you can have the operation. Also, if your lungs are clear, that is another indicator that you could still have surgery.I am sure the doctor will know what to do.You can't rush these things if all systems are not go.Relax if you can, better days are coming.Take care!

I don't believe they'd perform surgery w/ a cold. My son was scheduled for surgery. When we showed up they sent us home when they saw he had a cold. Good Luck though!

Nope, actually when you get to the hospital you'll probably get it re-schedule because there's no safe surgery with a flu.

NO they won't perform ANY surgery, NOT UNLESS IT IS AN EMERGENCY, if you have an illness.
Contact your doctor & hospital IMMEDIATELY & reschedule the procedure!
