Anyone who says, "I was hit, and I turned out ok" is making an irrelevant statement. Both my mother and mother in law were raped and abused in childhood, and both of them turned out ok too. I mean, it just depends on what you mean by OK. A lot of people who are totally not ok in the inside, look perfectly "normal" to the rest of us. It's only when they commit suicide, or we find out that they have been cheating on their spouse after 25 years, or that they desire to be a woman at 60 after being a man all their lives, that we realize that maybe everything wasn't OK afterall. Don't hit your children..at all. It isn't ok. Does it matter if your husband slaps your versus punches you? Let's hope not. Would you take a little jab in the cheek from your boss? Probably not. Children are ABSOLUTELY defenseless. At least you could press charges against your husband or boss, but what is a 3 year old to do besides take your crap?! Lay off the children and get some creativity. If hitting and pain inducing are in your arsenal listed under "child management" don't have kids. End the global cycle of abuse and "bigger bully" by wearing a condom or not having sex at all.

Do you have any statistical evidence to back that up, along with the source material?
I do not equate "hitting" with "spanking". It is one thing to hit a child across the face in anger, it is another to give him or her a swat on the rear for doing something wrong. I don't think anyone was ever scarred for life for getting a spanking when needed. Prisons are full of spoiled, undisciplined children who were probably never told "no" in their young lives, nor suffered the consequences of bad behavior.

Where did you get your source? I've been hit by my parents and I don't make up or have I ever made up the prison population.

There is a big difference in discipline and abuse. My father was abusive, my mother was not, though she did swat me when it was nessisary. Had I only been raised by my father I'd probably be a psycho. But my mother raised me with love, even if it meant a whooping here and there, because she wanted me to grow up to be a good person. And what do ya know? Im not a pshycho and Im decent person.

The worst behaved children I have come across (the most likely to end up in prison) are those who have not been disciplined by their parents.

Why is this posted in the Religion and Spirituality section? If you are trying to tie it into the bible quote "Spare the rod, spoil the child" you may want to state your point.
BTW, my child was swatted on the bottom and he is a productive member of society. I was spanked as a child and I am a productive member of society. My parents were spanked, they were productive members of society.

No surprise to me. I was hit on a regular basis. I think it comes from people having children just to have children, instead of having children because you genuinely want to raise children.

What you seem to be implying is that they were spanked as children. The percentage of prison inmates who were physically or sexually abused as children is fairly high *but* we're not talking about your average spanking. We're talking about them flat being beat up. Much of the abuse is tied to alcohol and drug abuse.

shell: There fore since my mon hit me, I am going to go to prison? Why don't the ones who hit us go to prison?
Does that make us rebellious and disobedient?
then it is not our fault but the fault of our parents, so therefore they are the ones who should be punished when we do bad things?
