Race is Regional, not genetic.
According to many studies, no one can tell the difference between a mestizo and an Indian anymore because the words have lost their traditional meanings. (mestizo= European ancestry). Now, the easiest way to label natives (one often employed by US officials as well) is "anyone that speaks an indigenous language on a daily basis and actively participates in village affairs and religious Native practices". If we label them thusly, by region and usage of indigenous language, then most of Mexico is mestizo. Further, the tribes have started moving south, away from the US borders leaving mestizos (made up of pure and mixed bloods as well as natives that have adopted Mexico's heritage over their own).
I agree that only 9% are pure white. But over 60% would be considered mixed and unaffiliated with a Native tribe. 30% would be considered active Native Americans. 1% class themselves as other. If one also takes into account that the 30% of official Natives will be mistreated and uneducated, then we must assume that the 61% left (and left north, nearer the US) are the ones traversing the border. These people have a Mexican Heritage (based on Spanish ancestry and clouding if not outright denying Native ancestry) and would not be considered indigenous, even to their own government.

agreed! The vast majority are mestizos. Those that are lucky, still have their indigenous traditions and language.
The illegal Mexican immigrants that I am most familiar with are from central Mexico and know a little Nahuatl. They are mestizos and dark-skinned. They have kept some of their indigenous traditions such as torilla making, blanket weaving, banos de temascal and outdoor smoke kitchens. I have met people from Chiapas, who's elders speak very little Spanish, their children/grandchildren often translate for them. The people i have met speak what I believe is called Nixit. There are many different types of people in Mexico because it is such a huge country! There are towns of white skinned blue eyed people that are of French and indigenous decent too.

How does any of this have anything to do with ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION?
Last I checked, it was ILLEGAL to be in this country without papers from the INS, US Government or being a US Citizen. Two things that anyone can do. If you are here by any other means, you are here illegally, and you need to go home. It's pretty easy to understand, really. Either you ARE breaking the law, or you ARE NOT. Where is the debate about that?

hmmmmm, not sure about your facts....True, 9% are white, mainly European decent. The others, meaning Native American tribe only make another say 8%.....BUT the remainder and vast majority are Mestizo, which are a mix of Spanish and Aztec, meaning Mexican....

You seem to have upset a whole bunch of people with your question.
I think it is pretty easy to tell people apart just by looking at them.
Whether they are legal or not is not an issue, they are people.
