According to the dictionary, fornication is sexual intercourse between an unmarried man and an unmarried woman. Adultery is having sex with someone other than your spouse. I don't know what the heck you call an unmarried person who has sex with a married person..

it takes fornication to commit adultery so they would be the same if you or your partner are married but not to each other, however if both parties are single then they would be seperate acts.
