The theory of drinking through a straw was meant to be for beer not shooters, it just got twisted. When you chug beer through a straw it does not digest with your saliva, as well as the lack of oxygen, it forces your stomach muscles to release and opens the sphincter to your liver making all your liquids flush into your liver making you more intoxicated...

well it has to do with home much air you get when u drink through a straw. When u put you straw into your drink there is air in the straw so when u suck up on the straw you swollow the air that was in the straw. I think that has a big thing to do with it

It could be that by sucking down quickly through a straw the small amount of alcohol isn't diluted by your saliva. Like drinking on an empty stomach, the liquor is quicker.

I don't think this is true if you're talking about a single shooter. If you're talking about multiple shooters, maybe drinking it through a straw lets you drink it more slowly, making it more palatable, and you end up drinking more.

I really doubt it makes a difference, as your body (your liver.....) only works so fast, and I believe it's 1 ounce of alcohol per hour anyway, regardless of ingestion method.
