Keep in mind that there is a whole new world in the painting that you can't see just from looking at it from outside.

For me, it's "The Persistence of Memory" by Salavador Dali.

What a difficult question to answer. There are so many wonderful paintings in the world how is one expected to choose just one? I have been at this for about 3 hours now and have decided to give up the search and just pick one. The stairways to the sky (or something like that) http://www.arthit.ru/0011-abstract.html although I like quite a bit of that collection.

Your Dali piece is not my favorite, but no one said it should be. There are just so many great paintings I am sort of disappointed with myself for giving up the search but I must. The piece I chose is simply (and I mean to emphasise simply) the last one of the thousands I viewed that I said, "Maybe that one." I'm tired of sitting at this computer and had never considered that question before so you had me on a roll there. I did take a break or two but I'm done thinking of it now. I know that when I click on submit I will not stop thinking about it but perhaps I can leave it here. Hopefully you don't think me a sissy for my choice, just a romantic I guess. BW

For me, it's not a painting. The capital building in Boise, Idaho has a replica of "The Winged Victory" It's a statue. France gave it to Idaho on the Merci (wagon or train, im not sure) The original is in the Louvre in Paris. Talk about facinated and obsessed! I just don't know what it is....something about it just takes me away.

I swear I thought I read that someone mentioned Thomas Kinkade's work as something they'd like to live inside of, but I don't see that answer anymore... maybe they deleted it... let's hope so?

I would love to live inside of any John William Waterhouse painting- mainly either Miranda, The Tempest or Psyche opening the Golden Box.

For me, I just love the prints of Thomas McKnight. Technically they aren't paintings but I have them hanging all around my house. Generally they are pictures of living rooms in exotic locations. When I look at them, I picture myself living inside them. My favorites are Yellow Music Room, Mustique Pavilion, Sonata, and Palm Island Florida.

Just about any of the Impressionists, and I also like Marc Chagall. Also, although they are drawings, M.C. Escher has done a LOT of interesting art which gives one the idea that "there is always more than one way to look something.
