The bible is in theory INSPIRED by God. Canon was determined by people who had studied a great deal to understand the original fragments of the texts and the cultural context.

OK, I know the moonies think that rev sun myung moon have taken to thinking that moon is Jesus' older and smarter brother, sent here to finish up the job, but they are in error.

Original Copy of the Bible? Do you know what the Bible is? It is a collection of sacred books, written at different times, by different people, in different situations, all put together in their present format about 1700 years ago, with corrections being made as necessary to clarify minor errors of translation or context.

And if you are LDS, that bible has the same typos as an earlier version. Analysis of the oldest texts and fragments sustain the newer version.

Don't even think of trying to bring Islam into the picture. It's the wrong century for that. The texts from Islam relating to the books of the Bible have been quite discredited by secular scholars.

Nag Hammadi texts do not dispute the Divinity of Christ.

What drivel are you talking about?

Before you take this any further, I would remind you that Pope Benedict XVI's previous occupation was to lead the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. You want to take on the Inquisition?

Jesus is the Son of God. And I think you might need more proof as to whether or not you have the original Bible because Yahoo Answers isn't going to convince us Jesus followers otherwise.
Plus, faith is the main reason why we know Jesus is the Son of God.

Can a copy (counterfiet) exist before the original? NO! The Quran was written after the Bible. Christians believe in ONE GOD 700 years before the birth of Islam. The concept of the Holy Trinity is a concept you cannot understand and many Christians have trouble with. I can prove the existence of the Holy Trinity.

Yet, you are willing to believe that Muhammad (pbuh) who could not read or write approved of the Quran (written by his companions) along with the angel Gabrial. This makes no sense.

God gave us free will. Yet, Islam will not permit leaving the faith except by death. This is not what Allah wants. Allah wants us to come to Him of our own free will and by faith. If this were not true then why doesn't Allah force everyone to worship him and make himself known to everyone?

May Allah bless you and your family.

If you are talking about the New Testament, you have the four gospels, the book of Acts, the writings of Paul (13 letters) and several letters by other authors. Due to the fragile nature of the papyrus scrolls they were written on (last about 50 years), none of them survive.

The writings of Paul came first - written beginning 50 AD and his death in 67 AD. We have quotes from others, such as Clements of Rome in 97 AD, that saw Paul's letters existed by that time. Several fragments from copies of his writtens have survived, the earliest (called p46) dates from about 100-125AD and has about 1390 of the 2389 verse (70%) of Paul's writings still readable.

The gospels: p64 and p67 contain fragments of Matthew that date from around 125 AD. p4 is a fragmented manuscript of the first part of Luke from around 130 AD. Both gospels are quoted elsewhere in earlier writtings. Luke is also quoted once by Paul around 57 AD.

Gospel of John: wirtten during his imprisonment on the isle of Patmos between 95-110 AD. Have a page from John, chapter 8, that dates from 117 AD. p66 is a manuscript from which 808 of the 879 verse of John can be reconstructed, copied before 150 AD

Most manuscripts are of only one book, or collects such as the gospels or the writings of Paul. The first complete New Testament, which contains the same 27 books we have today, dates from 175-200 AD

There are 2328 New Testament manuscripts from before 300AD. About 40 contain all the books of the New Testament. There are 1716 manuscript copies of the Gospels, 531 of the Act, 628 of the Pauline Epistles, 219 of the Apocalypse.

If every modern Bible were to disappear, we could reconstruct the entire New Testament except for 11 verses, from manuscripts, commentaries, letters, quotes, prayers books and inscriptions that pre-date the Council of Nicene in 325 AD which some people claim created the New Testament and altered any old existing books. That is an tremendous amount of manuscripts and other sourcesm spread all across Europe, Asia and Africa, including material held by Chrstian groups that were rivals of the Nicene Fathers, much of which was already in fragments and buried away two hundreds years before, and some of which was not known to exist until the last century.

The manuscript evidence for the New Testament is dramatic, with over 5,300 known copies and fragments in the original Greek which were copied before 1000 AD. This manuscript evidence far surpasses the manuscript reliability of other ancient writings that we trust as authentic every day. Look at these comparisons: Julius Caesar's "The Gallic Wars" (9 manuscripts remain, with the earliest one dating to 1,000 years after the original autograph); Pliny the Younger's "History" (7 manuscripts; 750 years elapsed); Thucydides' "History" (8 manuscripts; 1,300 years elapsed); Herodotus' "History" (8 manuscripts; 1,300 years elapsed); Sophocles (193 manuscripts; 1,400 years); Euripides (9 manuscripts; 1,500 years); and Aristotle (49 manuscripts; 1,400 years).

Homer's "Iliad", the most renowned book of ancient Greece, has 643 copies of manuscript support. In those copies, there are 764 disputed lines of text (about 15% of the text), as compared to 40 lines in all the New Testament manuscripts (about 0.8%). In fact, many people are unaware that each of William Shakespeare's 37 plays (written in the 1600's) have gaps in the surviving manuscripts, forcing scholars to "fill in the blanks." This pales in textual comparison with the over 5,300 copies and fragments of the New Testament that, together, assure us that nothing's been lost or altered.

You may "think" whatever you like about what the original documents said. But if you take the time to examine the evidence, you will find that the New Testament as we have it today is an accurate and reliable text of the writings.

How many versions of the Bible have their been? How much influence has humanity had over what's included, excluded, and changed? I don't personally trust that the bible sitting on my shelf is the true, intact, complete Word of God, because that means I would have to trust over 2000 years of humanity and, well, sir, let me tell you... asking me to believe blindly in our Lord is one thing, but believing in the truthfulness of 2000 years worth of Man is another thing entirely.

Although I have studied much, and am certian that what I have is the scripture as accurate and complete as it can be, I would be curious as to what you might say you have. I am never above learning something new, even if it turns out to be false.
Since scripture has already told us..."If anyone preaches a gospel to you other than the one we have already preached, let him be cursed"...I would have to doubt the exsistance of another prophet. Book, chapter and verse please.

What if I told you to read the last chapter of Revelations? You should know( if you don't take the time to read it) that it says if you add or take oway from The Lord's words in that book, your name will be taken out of the lamb's book of life. Be careful what you mock. You may live to regret it.
