do you believe that small children, mentally handicapped people, etc. (who are unable to understand) go to heaven when they die? if that is possible, then there must be an intelligence quotient that allows one to be bad and still reach heaven. if a person cannot fully understand the concept of god, yet still gets angry enough to kill, how can any gods punish that person? why would any gods punish any people that don't believe? perhaps that person doesn't possess the knowledge it takes to get to heaven? if you believe that god is going to punish a stupid person for simply being stupid then that is strange. a person can be intelligent enough to function yet still not understand gods and devils.

one of you didn't fully understand, and i really don't want others to be confused: small children and developmentally disabled people are not lumped into a class of 'stupid' here. i am just further stating that a god should not punish a stupid person for being stupid. i personally do not believe in gods and devils, heaven and hell. that could be an intelligence issue. if people are not intelligent enough to see it as you do, do you believe they should burn for eternity? simply an ego check here. i may be stupid compared to you, does god reward some for intelligence? where did we obtain our intelligence to begin with?

For one, I wouldn't call small children and mentally handicapped people "stupid."
On to your question:
God does not send people to Hell. People choose to go to Hell because they choose not to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior. There is only one way to salvation, and that is through Jesus. If you don't choose Jesus, then you choose Satan. There is no middle ground. If a child, the mentally insane, or mentally handicapped are incapable of understanding God and the choice between Him and Hell, then God will show mercy to them. People must reach an age of accountability where they are able to make rational moral decisions. For most children this age is probably around 10-11, depending on the emotional and spiritual maturity of the child. For those that are mentally handicapped or mentally insane, they may never reach that age of accountability.

I almost never volunteer my thougts on this subject, but your question seems to cry out for an answer. We all are God's creations. The good, the bad, and the ugly of us. God either loves us all, or there's no equality in the universe. Regardless of whether we believe that God exists, or our religion, or if we are athiest... we all go to a life hereafter. All of us!!
And I believe, that God forgives us our sins, regardless of their severity. This existience is a school. We are here to learn, and hopefully to eventually perfect ourselves, so that we may one day be with God permanently. If we fail in our attempt, we are returned here to try again.

Whether small children or aged persons, retards or geniuses, all go to heaven not based on their mental faculties or age, but on their mental make-up at the moment of death. Good deeds and compassion and loving kindness habitually done throughout our lives will developed into good mental virtues. These are the virtues, not our earthly possessions, that propel us to a heavenly state at that moment of death. The death moment is of paramount importance. Small children who lack the time to accumulate goodness are propel to a new destination due to their karmic attributes accumulated from past lives.
Take care.

I believe in God. God is most compassionate and will not punish anyone who does not believe in Him or is ignorant. Look at Sun. It gives light to all irrespective of who the person is. God's concept is somewhat similar. Heaven is a concept which is scientifically unproven and therefore difficult believe in its existence or non-existence.

Eating of the Tree of KNOWLEDGE of good and evil is what caused sin. Knowing something is sin and choosing to do it is what causes the problems. But dont be fooled into thinking you can be told something is a sin and say "I dont believe it" and that means you dont know it's a sin, it just means you deny the Word of God like Adam and Eve did.

.Out of all the humans on the earth, only the holiest, doing-God's-Will-people go to heaven--God created the earth to be lived on by humans and animals etc. HE even created the wicked for the Day of Destruction and HE gives everyone enough time to reconcile themselves to HIM. The gift of eternal and everlasting life is the gift that God gives to those who really search for HIM and become HIS devoted slave/servant.

Well...I was raised Catholic, and they believe that, in complicated situations, the soul goes to limbo, where they sort of just wait around for Jesus to show up and sort it all out. It's very convenient ;-)
