those under 18? If you choose a religion, that's freedom of religion. If you don't want to do something that's your right.
But if you are under 18 and you don't do what they want you are rebellious and disobedient and need to be punished by loseing priviledges? Why is civil rights only for adults?

It's different rules for different places and different people I'm afraid. Here in england things are very different, everything is quite relaxed. but I understand that in america it can be completely different. Just remember that the people who set the rules usually do so because they want to protect you, that said everyone has basic rights and you can't force people to believe certain things, that is a personal choice. It seems a long time away but soon you will be old enough to follow your own mind and heart. :)

Children have civil rights, just not some rights of adults. For example a child cannot legally sign a contract to buy a house, buy alcohol, or vote. These things are this way because most children under 18 do not have the capacity to fully understand the impact of these things. If you want to talk about loss of civil rights by children you should focus on the absolute rule of children inside public schools.

Wrong; civil rights are for everyone. That's a legal deal-; constitutional, and upheld by the courts. But you're talking about privileges, not rights! Your adult parents are legally responsible for your welfare until you are old enough to think like an adult. On average, a Teen is incapable of making rational, responsible decisions for him/herself, until an average age of 18. it's really closer to 20, but the lawmakers wanted to pacify some rebellious teens, and made it 18. So parents get to dole out the privileges as allowed by law. Under 18, it's not your right to be rebellious; no more than it's your right to kill someone. Settle down and be patient; your body will wait!

Well, the idea is to actually protect children from themselves. Kids are not yet capable of making those important decisions in life. They don't have the capacity to make a fully informed decision. So, their parents need to step in.

Of course, there are plenty of teenagers who can make such decisions for themselves, I'm just speaking to the basic idea at work here. As for a child being punished for disobeying their parents - it is because the parents are trying to teach the child that their decision was wrong or ill-informed and there are consequences at stake here. Of course, sometimes there may be a better teaching alternative to punishment.

As for punishment for not following the parents' religion, that is goddamned ridiculous, if you ask me. How on earth is that encouraging the child to follow the religion? If this is an issue for you or someone you know, you need to sit down and have a discussion with your parents about your religious beliefs versus their religious beliefs. If they still say "my way or the highway" then you're just stuck going to church until you live somewhere else.

How old do you need to be to die for your country?
"Abandon your animosities and make your sons Americans" - Robert E. Lee

Your parents are legally responsible till the age of 18 - depending on the nature of your offenses.
I think that you would rather deal with your parents than within the governmental legal system - or would you rather the government raise you from birth and give you full rights from birth.

rolling here.. there are so many laws that protect minors, I can't believe this question was asked.. do you not pay attention? What is it that you want that you can't have?
Of course, the fact that a person has reached 18, doesn't make them mature.. but, it means they've survived their teenage years..
and, therefore, they are priviledged enough to have additional rights.

Because until you are 18, you are not a legal adult yet, meaning you are still the responsibility of your parents.

And because your parents, not the government provide you with privileges like going out with friends, TV, computer, music, etc, they can take them away and ground you. The government couldn't care LESS!

Because our world is very, Very, VERY screwed up! If so-called "minors" want civil rights, they will have to make their own, with the help of a few sympathizers like me. (And no, I'm not a minor, I'm almost 22.)
