I would say that too much of anything is not a good idea, but graham crackers aren't the worst thing he could eat. A few words of caution:
1) I would not limit the fat intake on your 17 month-old child. Almost all the fat they eat at this age goes toward brain development. If he is truly eating graham crackers as a regular snack, do not get fat-free ones as he may fill up on them if he truly eats them a lot and not get the necessary fat he needs from his diet. Organic crackers made with canola oil or something similar and without the trans fats are a good option.
2) I would not give him nut butters yet, the introduction of nuts at such a young age is thought to have some role in the development of nut allergies. Hold off until your pediatrician says it is ok.
3) I would limit his intake so that it does not interfere with him having an otherwise varied and nutritious diet.

Oh yeah, its fine. Grahm crackers actually have a lot of fiber, and are a healthier choice than say candy or other sweets. Try to feed him the regular more often than the cinnamon and sugar kind, but other than that, he should be fine. He'll probably grow out of it in a few years.

Children go through these phases regularly. They eat only one or two things for what seems like forever to us, but it's really not long. When your child decides that he doesn't want to eat them anymore, he won't. Just make sure you are offering other choices--fresh fruit & veggies, plenty of fluids, and a good source of protien. At this age finger foods that he can take with him are a real hit. It's a sign of independence--something he wants but doesn't even know what it is yet. Don't worry about it, really. One of my 3 boys ate nothing but apples for 2 days, another would pass up sugary stuff for mushrooms anytime. They are both healthy & still do that now--they are teenagers now.

i would try giving him other things and tell him that if he eats that then he could have some crackers. and i would try to feed him alot of the food so he won't be able to eat so many crackers. they are better than some other cookies but they all have sugar and too much sugar is never a good thing but they do make agood dessert after a meal

Graham crackers aren't unhealthy per say, they're just fattening. Try and provide a variety of foods to help even out your baby's diet.
BTW I have a 2 month old Grandson!

Absolutely not - they fill him up, making nutritious meals difficult to feed him, and they are full of hydrogenated oil (saturated/trans fat) and sugar.
Here is a quote from http://science.enotes.com
"The primary ingredients include whole-wheat flour, fat, and sugar. Graham cracker recipes typically require hydrogenated vegetable shortening composed of soybean and cottonseed oil."
Let's talk trans-fat here, as well as overwieght with potentially poor eating habits later on - when you have less control.
A couple a week may be fine, depending on the saturated/trans fat content, but that is it.
Good Luck!

I would suggest switching over to organic graham crackers, and try fooling your 17 month old and try giving him rye crackers, which look exactly like graham crackers but they are MUCH healthier. No fat, no oil, and no sugar. But if he doesn't like them, i'd just try adding nutritional value to the graham crackers, like spreading some organic nut butter on them for protein, or having him eat them with skim milk cheese. Or he could dip them in skim milk!

Read the label for contents and decide if they are healthy. Considering all the things in the world to which one can become addicted, graham crackers are one of the least dangerous, don't you think?

Graham crackers are a very healthy food, made with whole grains. They were invented for John D. Rockefeller, because he had so many stomach ulcers and couldn't eat anything.(by Dr, Graham) Vary the diet by seeing how many things you can spread on them. Peanut butter, honey, cheese spread, fruit spread, fMake little sandwiches with different fillings-egg salad, cheese, nut pastes, meat spreads, make dips, vegetable, fruit, meat spreads,

There's no such thing as a sugar hi(gh), but there is a lot of partially hydrogenated soybean oil in those- get them at Whole Foods or some health food store. It's not good for anyone to eat too much of anything.
