You've got to see the Larry Holmes fight. Holmes was doing fine and suddenly Tyson hit him with a bomb. That right hook essentially finished the fight.

In my opinion, Mike Tyson at one time was a devastating knock out artist but no means was he the hardest puncher in boxing history, he wouldn't even make the top ten. Sandy Saddler, Jack Dempsey, Joe Louis, Ernie Shavers,Bob Satterfield, Charles Ledoux, George Chaney, Bob Fitzsimons, Max Baer and Jimmy Wilde round off Ring Magazines 10 hardest Punchers in boxing history. Former Heavy Weight Champion of the World Archie Moore had 145 career knockouts, Lamar Clark had 44 straight knockouts (1958-1960) Young Otto had 42 first round knockouts. Boxings history is rich with fighters that hit hard, Rocky Marciano once hit Ron Lantraza so hard that it sheered his teeth off at the gums, and that was with his mouthpiece in. Tyson was of this generation, but there were so many heavy hitters out there, Mikes just a footnote in boxing history. Thanks for the great question ABCX, and thank you for giving me the opportunity to answer your question................................. You asked "The hardest puncher in boxing history." Correct? You didn't just mean heavyweights did you? My list is fighters of various weight divisions, The Heavies aren't the only ones who hit hard.

Most of the boxing experts I know consider Earnie Shavers to have been the hardest hitting puncher in heavyweight history. The problem with Shavers is that he had a notoriously week chin, so he'd either win or lose by KO every time out. Tyson is somewhere in the top ten, but no way was he the heaviest hitter of all time. Aside from Shavers, I'd put Frazier and Foreman ahead of him for sure...

It may be that G. Foreman was the hardest puncher in boxing history.
BUT Mike Tyson is the most dangerous fighter in boxing history.

The top 10 of punchers pound 4 pound of all-time.
1). Joe Louis
2). Archie Moore
3). Sandy Saddler
4). George Foreman
5). Ernie Shavers
6). Sugar Ray Robinson
7). Reuben Olivares
8). Wilfredo Gomez
9). Rocky Marciano
10). Sonny Liston

P.S. If Ali could survive Foreman's, Liston's and Shavers' punches what kind of damn fool would think that he could not survive Marciano's punches.
A lot of opinions on boxing yahoo don't have credibility because of the lack of objectivity.

You can make alot of arguments for a lot of guys, but Mike Tyson's punch was the hardest ever in boxing. I would probably give a younger George Foreman second, but nothing is more deadly than a Kid Dynamite/Iron Mike blow.

No Way. The Hardest puncher was George Foreman.

Tyson during 1985-1988 was the most complete heavyweight boxer in history. His knockouts happened after a combination of incredibly hard punches usually, but what's underrated about him was his ring presence and defense. All in all, no he didn't have the hardest knockout punch ever but he was the deadliest heavyweight of all time as a total package.

Not even close! Dempsey and Louis were the hardest punching heavyweights ever. Marciano, Frazier, Foreman were hammers!!!! Never dismiss the awesome left hand of Gerry Cooney!!! Cassius Clay, pre Ali, met a knockout artist to rank at the top, W.VA. white heavyweight Lamar Clark Remembers Ali: "he hit so hard even his misses stung. I was afraid to block his shots, thought he'd punch right through me. He could punch! Hit me once in the chest, I couldn't breathe for a minute!!! Lamar Clark could hit!" Needless to say, Clay cleaned his clock. Boxing is about far more than punching power!!!

Wouldnt it probably be someone like Butterbean who is the actual hardest puncher ever. I know what you mean though watching some of the old tyson KO videos he did throw a mean punch in his prime, the one he hit Berbick with would of put King Kong down.
