A Salisbury steak is a large ground beef patty mixed with egg, bread crumbs, onions, seasoning, etc., and friend, broiled or baked... in other words, it's a hamburger that is usually served as an "open sandwich" and made so they can charge you more!

I don't know the dictionary definition, but when I think of salisbury steak, I think of ground steak drenched in brown gravy, mushrooms & onions - and goes great with mashed potatoes.

Yea, it's ground steak with gravy. Sometimes comes with mushrooms and onions. Often found in small quantities in cheap frozen dinners. Yummy, and much easier to chew than regular steak. :)
