AKC breeders tend to choose the clear pinto marked dogs and steer away from the ticking/mottling/flecking gene due to aesthetics. The gene is dominant, so those who don't like it simply choose dogs that don't have it and it can be completely eliminated from strains or minimized to just having a fleck or two on the toes and freckles on the muzzle. However if you look into AKC working dogs there are are working dog breeders that love ticking! Definitely UKC too for a good source of working blood.

Found a page where someone has a very richly marked beagle and seems to know the bloodline of origin. You might try contacting them too:

I'm not so sure you're going to find small ones in the color you like as easily.

Good luck! They are very persistent, nose oriented and stubborn dogs and so raising your pup will be an adventure. :)

I was not aware they even came in blue. I just had to comment on the response about ticking. I watched a whole slew of Beagles being judged at am AKC show today, and there were several dogs with ticking.

AKC sucks, get a UKC dog, and who cares about the bluetick, get a beagle from hunting breeders and you will be happy.
