he takes a pebble of his dry food. then he puts it in the middle of the living room. then he goes sits down and watches it forever. when i get up to do anything, he runs to his peable and just stares at it. if i come really close to him, then he eats it. if not, then he goes back and continues to watch it.

i have no idea why he does that but my dog does something strangely too. He takes a peable of his food, then he throws it up in the air and starts playing with it, he does that for quite a long time and it only happens right when i put the new food in his bowl. I guess all dogs have their weird thing to do but it's ok as long as it's not hurting him it's ok.

My yorkies acts similarly. He takes one or two pepples of food away from the dish starts on one and if I get close quickly goobles up all of them. My mom's female yorkie and my cousins male yorkie do the same thing.
I don't know why they do it, but it is not uncommon. My yorkie hardly ever eats directly out of his bowl.

Sounds like he wants to play; he's keeping his eye on the food and saying, "Look! That's interesting!" When you make a move, he gets closer, inviting your interest. He doesn't want you to take the food; he wants you to get a toy and play with him for a few minutes. It's like kids trying to share their toys with you; he's sharing what he likes that he thinks you'll like.
Do you only see him at mealtime, maybe, because you work a lot?

My dog does this too, we put a laundry basket over the food, and watch the fun begin!

Sounds like he's bored and he's just playing with his food. The reason he eats it when you get near him is because he thinks you'll take it. No worries, he's just having fun.

HE is going crazy LOL. No I think it is a game to him he is just playing you should play with him, Make a game out of it with him. He sound's like he is board and looking for some fun.

I think he has just invented a game and wants you to play with him. Unless he gets possessive and growls over it. Then he is trying to show you he is the boss.
Just play with him and you will know.
